Can the Fractal Design ION 760W PSU keep up with an EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3?

So I originally wanted a 3060ti/3080 but due to the pricing "stuff" the 3080 was the only "down to earth" price choice, however I am not sure if my system is able to fulfill its duties. I do not plan to oc the gpu (maybe even underclock it?)

I also fear that due to the 3x8 pin connection my psu will not supply ample "electricity" to my GPU too. Am I wrong?

System:
i7-10700k
32gb ddr4 3600mhz G.Skill TridentZ Neo
MSI Z490 Tomahawk
2x nvme ssd (one with pcie card)
5x Samsung 860, 1x WD Blue HDD
6 fans, some external USB devices(optical disc drive, external hdd)

Nvidia recommends at least 650 Watts for their RTX 3080 but that is with some padding involved. So depending on how old your PSU is, it's more than enough even for 3080 or even 3090.

It shouldn't. It should only draw how much your components would need to use.

I understand, however, lets say that i am running stresstest and my CPU can eat 290w while my GPUalso eats 450w it only leaves 100w "alone"for the rest of the system (including 15w phone charger etc) which seems very tight.

Have you measured how much your system draws now?

What GPU you have now? If you measure now, just add on the theoretical amount that is of the 3080 above your current GPU.

So far that is how I do things. I actually need to test out my current system.

Your numbers seem high. If you are taking 290w for the 10700k off the TPU multithread test then that figure was for the whole system power. Tom's had the CPU at 5.1ghz doing a AVX stress test and only pulled 211w, gaming would be even less. Gaming your GPU should be pulling around 300-325w on avg. The only way you would be approaching 450w on the GPU is on a stress test.

I wouldn't trust that calculator at all. If you got the money to spend on these cards, then I suggest looking at buying a digital meter:

Plug your PC into that, run some really high demanding game and or benchmark and watch to see what it gets to maximum. That gives you a good idea. Thats what I do. This could actually save you more money in the future anyway as you may not have to buy a new PSU.

Going with this scenario, as long as it doesn't draw on hours on end, "tight" is a fine limit.
While I doubt that your CPU eats that much Watts, a RTX 3080 GPU draws about 320 Watts, while your current RTX 2070 Super only draws 215 Watts. So your system is far from being constrained.

Which online wattage calculator did you go off of? Sounds over-bloated to me to give off up to 1100 Watts.

CPU with power 290W would basicly cooked itself on Air cooling and 120/140mm AIO.
Do you have 240+ AIO or water loop ?

450W on GPU isn't possible for most RTX 3080s, since are they locked to under 400W by vBIOS.
Also, temp throttling from GPU Boost WILL drop that power level a good bit under longer term test/game session (unless you plan on doing water cooling on your card).

Dunno if Newegg's calculator is reliable or not but be Quiet!'s calculator isn't. And it's outdated too. I haven't seen SeaSonic's calculator yet.
I suggest you use OuterVision's power supply calculator instead as they should be more accurate.

Must be some excellent cooler if it managed to keep the CPU alive at that temp. with a wattage pull that high.

To be honest, how do you know it was drawing that much power from the CPU? Most of those software sensor things dont seem to really work well or arent as accurate as it seems.

And yeah, a CPU drawing that much wattage is pretty bad. I think my W3680 is at max something like 145W when stress tested. And that thing got hot, I had to water cool it for most part.

Sorry for the confusion, I memant that i saw usage (on the internet) as high as 290w but i currently use it at 4.8ghz at 1.2V and I remember that it draw 200w during linpack test 4-5 months ago.

I am still highly sceptical of that wattage.

Like I said, get one of those devices I suggested, stress test your system and let us know. $18 is a lot less to pay for than $150~ for the PSU.
