Just curious, can you wire any random speakers to 5.1 channel?
From my understanding 5.1 is basically 5+SW speakers that channeled separately. So, lets say I have 3 random speakers and 2.1 system. Can I just cut them wires then solder it with RCA then plug them in to 5.1 audio decoder and called it a day? Ignoring audio quality, Is it that easy to achieve cheap 5.1 channels?

No, remember Speakers have tweeters/mids and a base.

You may get away with it if the speakers all are full range.

Just save the dough and buy a 5.1 set.

I see then. I've been eyeing some old DVD HT system from 2016. Can I just grab only the speakers and connect them with audio decoder the same way above?
I don't really like HT soundbar simply because their L/R separation (on entri level one) doesn't quite as good as the real separate L/R speakers. Modern HT system is just expensive, I just want to hook some affordable HT for my PS5.

I have a 5.1 Yamaha decoder with a set of 5.1 Panasonic speakers from an old dvd player. I stripped the speakers down to check the driver ratings were below my decoders output power and wired them in sound great but I wouldn't know any better.

Yeah I plan to do exactly like this, there is this LG DVD HT I've been eyeing, I just want the speakers. Any issues so far?

I know how you feel about sound bars, they are lazy. Id source out good speakers dedicated to the job to make a 5.1 layout or look at the generation SB X230s came from and find their 5.1 and 7.1 counterparts.

Been fine I had to make an amp for the sub but lucky Yamaha decoders come with an optimiser mic so I just pugged that in put it in the center of the room and ran the Dolby setup to configure the eq and dB for each individual speaker.

I'm guessing that you are talking about a HTIB set's speakers.
These speakers often can have very low impedance (like <4Ω); do check before connecting that to the receiver, that the receiver have support for low impedance speakers.
