I'm looking to create a quiet desktop-profile for my 6950, but Afterburner (2.1) doesn't allow for fan speed below 25%.

Can you somehow circumvent this safety lock?

For that reason. But why does it matter? May I only ask for your advice if my reasons are rational?

then I advise this. If you lowerd the fan anymore the card would probably overheat and die. if you still wish to cut the 'sound' of the fans then a 3rd party cooler would be the way to go.

I'm not sure about any way to unlock the fan speed yet, May i ask whats wrong with the fan simply at 25%? i couldn't hear mine when they were at 25%.

I will keep an eye out for you though.

i can hear my fan at 25% . and don't forget that the card is at 250mhz in windows , and at 25% fan it get around 35C .

that would be nice to get it slower to watch movie without this little humming lol
until i get my watercooling setup done.

water cooling still needs 1-3 fans to keep the the water cool does it not? you can by slow fans that spin at 800RPM but would VASTLY effect your temps = even 2 or 3 fans@800RPM still make noise.

If the noise bothers you at 25% I would have to recommend just getting a new cooler that has quieter fans. I really don't think that you can make it go any lower then that.

unplug the fan? :p

perhaps plug it into a molex connector with a fan controller or current limiting device, but you would need to be carefull with temps.

Yes, but it would require a software mod or hardware mod.

I'd suggest looking into a third party passive cooler, or perhaps a graphics card with on already installed. Less aggressive cards(like the GTS220 or HD5550) can get away with a passive heatsink.

Why not using CCC for o.c. ? My fan is running @ 21% dead quiet, but I agree, 25% is already to noisy for desktop use.
Btw, you can edit the fan curve in settings in Afterburner, and you can choose any percent you like. (I can put 15% fan speed without the temperature going up in desktop) ;) very handy!

My idle temp @ 48c leaves plenty of headroom, so no heat won't be an issue.

Thunder and Ana, I'm going to test the fan speed limit in catalyst control center tonight, thanks.

AnaMaria81, did you check if the fan speed actually goes down to 15% in afterburner?

you can go from 1% all the way up, and yes, I've tested. :)

By creating a custom fan profile afterburner actually does allow you to go all the way down to 0%. But you can't enter anything below 25% in the primary interface.
