Is there anyone who could help me get this thing running at 4k resolution 60hz???

my samsung UHD TV requires me to enable HDR and 60hz only works on HDMI1, odds are you've got a similar setting/HDMI port limitation holding you back

edit: google says R9 290 cant do it over HDMI, only displayport. You're gunna need an active DP -> HDMI 2.0b adaptor

I have a similar TV and it works just fine on GTX 970.

Make sure to set the HDMI input label to PC mode and enable HDMI Ultra HD deep colour.

You may also need to change the color format in the AMD control panel.

R9 290 doesn't support HDMI v2.0, which is mandatory for 60Hz on 4K.

As Mussels said, you'll need DP to HDMI 2.0 adapter.

You might try pixel clock patcher & custom res util (IIRC), else 2160p60 only through DP 1.2 via MST & you'll need an active adapter. HDMI 1.4 might stretch to 2160p60 but only with 4:2:0 output...

The R9 290/390's HDMI port is only 1.4a, not 2.0. 1.4a can only do 4k@30Hz. If you want 4k@60Hz, you need to use DisplayPort on that card or get a card with HDMI 2.0.

Going to have to agree with the rest of the folks above, you'll need a DP to HDMI 2.0a adapter cable. However, It might save you a bunch of trouble in future if you simply upgraded to an RX 580, Vega 56 or even Vega 64 if you want to afford it. The market for used RX & Vega cards is excellent with the crypto-mining downturn. For example, if you ignore the fake listings for $78, an 8GB RX 580 can be had for right around $165 shipped.

Damn I did not realize this..Thanks guys. Looks like I gotta find an adapter.
Yeah, I'm going to step up to a Vega 56/64 as my next upgrade. A RX 580 does not increase performance enough for me to justify buying one. My R9 290 overclocks like a beast with the Arctic Cooler and memory/VRM heatsinks I put on it.

You need a DP to HDMI Adapter, only 900/1000/2000 series and 400-500/Vega GPU's support 4k60 over HDMI

Yep, I had the same issue too, first with my HD7970, then with my R9 290X hooked up to a 65" 4K TV. It had me scratching my head till I finally took a look at the R9 290X specs and facepalmed myself for not realizing that. In my case I'd bought a GTX 1080 for HDMI2.0 support.....
