Cant seem to boot into Dos in Vista 64

Alright so I downloaded and ran the HPUSBImage utility. I also downloaded and used Win98 Dos Boot files on the removeable thumb drive I have. Well here is my problem, I go to restart the computer and then the system hangs and the Asus splash screen. It doesnt move past it at all and wont boot into DOS. If I hit the Delete button and use that to try and go into Bios, when it gets to reading the 1 USB drive hooked up, it stalls at Device #0. Ive tried booting off Removeable DEV in the first position and third position with no luck. Does anyone know if it is possible and how to do it to boot into DOS on Vista 64? I have a "certain program" for a "certain WD Scorpio BEVS" HDD and I need to be in DOS to run it.

Also I am not able to use F8 to try and select the USB drive to boot from as I cant get it to work with the drive in.

try formatting it again? but im not sure if i got the hp app to format my drive properly in v64, i remember having to format it on another pc.

well only other pc I have is my wifes laptop which uses vista home premium 32bit and that didnt work before either

Just to confirm...Isnt UBCD a DOS bootable disc?

If so I run in DOS all the time with Vista 64.

Sorry I was just using it for a refference. From the looks of the OP it seems you are trying to flash something. this is more of a maintenence and test utility.

Well if it gets me into DOS, that is all I need. Im needing to boot my Vista 64 machine into DOS and I cant do that with what I got going right now.

For your purpose I dont think it applies. Was just to say that I can use it in Vista64. So if in fact it is a DOS disc it is possible to use in Vista64. That was my point. Sorry for all the confusion.

You are trying to flash something here correct from a USB drive? the HP boot image will work for this purpose, but it sounds like one of two things is off.

EDIT: rereading I see that this isnt a flash, so you need this to be set on whatever the format USB, CD, floppy, to a bootable image so it wants to boot automatically. as said before look to make sure its formatted correctly!

Alright, lets get off the flash something. Because, in order for me to flash it, I have to BE IN DOS to use the program. It wont run in Vistas DOS emulator. What I am trying to do is simply be able to boot my pc into DOS itself. Not Vista. After that, I can do what I need to do. As I stated I have swapped around the boot priority and all that.

Personally I have never gotten into DOS without a floppy to actually type flash comands for a GPU bios. All my utilities such as UBCD and memtest 86+ are on CD, but are set to the CD as a bootable image in the format. Without a bootable image set on the drive, I dont know how to get directly to DOS other than the CMD prompt through windows!

Well I was able to flash the GPU bios I had here using XP 64 bit, it just seems Vista is being a pain in the ass. If anyone else has any suggestions Im all ears. Id hate to have to screw up my Vista install again just to get into XP and boot to DOS. Looks like I may have to.

Well UBCD got me into Dos and what not using FreeDOS pro, but once in there, I couldnt use the tools I needed. Looks like I will go with XP and try that way.
