So apparantly this seems to be a bug that ATI can't seem to keep fixed. Worked fine in the 10.3 preview drivers for me, but now on WHQL 10.4 it has returned. Even says in the release notes that this is fixed. Anyone else with a 5870 seeing this as well?

Just gotta say, love the thread title. lol.

At any rate, does this only effect the 5k series cards? I've not seen anything like it on any driver on my 4870X2.

I never did actually get that issue fixed. I won't comment on the phantom BC2 fixes either.

Yeah, this is a 5k series issue. Doesn't seem to matter what BIOS is on it either.

Not only that, it is mainly a 5700 series issue as I have seen.
The Cypress/Hemlock seems to have better drivers.

I've got a Cypress card (HD 5870) and have the giant mouse cursor, as I said in the OP. I notice that on 10.4 it gets gigantic only a couple of minutes after the PC starts. Harmless, but annoying...

In eyefinity, I have this issue on just ONE of the monitor plugs. Those of you using a single monitor might want to try to use the other DVI port, and if it fixes it, let us know!

Just tried this and no dice. Still get the giant cursor on either DVI port. I don't get this. Worse is I can't go back to the 10.3b. When I uninstall 10.4 and reboot I immediately end up in restore mode and it reverts back to the 10.4s. I wonder if the 780G chpset is just funky in combination with the 5870.

The thing is, if you uninstall all drivers it also removes your AHCI/RAID drivers. ;)
So you have to do a custom uninstall from Catalyst install manager.

That's good to know. It also seems like a bit of a design fault to me.

It really only happens when you need to install the RAID/AHCI drivers. It doesn't happen in Win7 with SB710.
The best way to do it is manually install the RAID/AHCI drivers so that Cat uninstall manager won't do that. :shadedshu

I like the thread title too: nice ironic humour. ;)

Anyway, I've never heard of this oversized cursor problem before this thread. Could someone please explain exactly what one sees when this happens?

this may seem dumb but it windows carnt you adjust things to do with the cursor? Maybe for some reason it set it real large and you have to reset it manually? Worth a try i gues

Imagine your mouse pointer on screen, now imagine it 4x bigger. It's particularly annoying in my case because I already use larger cursors, so I end up with a mouse pointer that's even more enormous.

Neat, I love big cursors, so having a huge one blotting out half my screen would be quite a novelty. Now, set it to invert the background colour and you're really cooking.

Well, just reverted back to 10.3b Preview. No more gigantapointer. So yeah, ATI may want to look into that.

In multi monitor setups it typically only affects one monitor. In my case it happens to be the one I usually use for text, webpages, Word files and so on, making it really annoying. I got the bonus item of a black smudge that obscurs the cursor in text fillable boxes.

Got this bug here as well with 5850 CF for both 10.3b and 10.4 WHQL, only having this issue with my main monitor, the other one is fine, REALLY annoying.

The cursor is not only enlarged, but also changing its shapes, right now it looks like a 12x48 pixels black box, and sometimes it turns into broken normal cursors, and other 2 more shapes. It's ugly and really hard to aim. It even affect a few games.

so you have a mouse that reconfigs itself eh? I've got speakers that reconfigure themselves (front speakers switch to my rears and my rears go to the sub and left speaker and center moves over one) so apparently the 10.x drivers are revenge of the reconfigurations!!!
