It installed fine on my 3850AGP. Ok here is the trick:

1./ DONT uninstal the old driver
2./ Just install the *drivers* not CCC on top of existing
3./ Reboot, then turn up hardware acceleration

Done

RESULTS SO FAR:

1./ Lightsmark 2007, up +12%
2./ Open Furmark, 3337 to 3344 (nothing much)
3./ Aquamark, no change
4./ 3Dmark06, no change worth mentioning. Stock 10,299. Overclock 11,663 *

* I hate doing the 3Dmark benchmarks. They take SO LONG to do. Wish they would do something a little bit more zippy.

agreed.

and to 3m06 performance, I saw a 400 point drop between CAT 8.2 and CAT 8.5

I thought my score on 3Dmark went up, i guess not. Before at the same settings i got 20,008. Now with the same settings, i got 19,946. Not a big difference.. but it pulled me away from 20k

I might revert back to 8.4's, i almost think they done more damage than good for me. It was suppose to fix my DiRT issues, but now the damned game won't even play

I had to go back to 8.4 because 8.5 wouldn't display correctly on my HDMI 22" computer monitor.

These are not the vantage hotfix drivers. The corruption that was present with the 8.4's (which was fixed with the hotfix) is once again present in 3DMVantage.

I got the stock CPU run in, then tried to go straight to 3.6GHz and run again then got a Red screen of death lol

From the way it was looking, I have a hard time believing it would have been better.

Gonna send you a PM here in a minute on the board ;)

Thank you for testing that.

BTW, you should install CCC because the AI is where the fixes are for games. Without this turned on you don't get the hot fixes.

Adaptive AA on OpenGL for Catalyst Control Center is what I would really like to see tested.

agreed - also, Crossfire users need CAT AI to even run crossfire.

What I've found works best, is to install CCC with the new driver, and run ATI Tray Tools instead. After reboot of a new CAT install, you'll have to disable CCC start in msconfig, and restart ATT, but the new information will be there, and you won't have a need to have CCC load up at boot or even run at all - ATT will handle the rest.

And, BTW for crossfire users, the most recent beta of ATT correctly enables crossfire - so there's no need for us to even have CCC running.

I just got myself a HD 3850 for my aging system. I've been having trouble finding good drivers. How soon do they usually release the hotfix for new Catalyst drivers because the new 8.5 doesn't recognize my HD 3850

CATAI is primarily an attempt for the drivers to fix some flaws in the code, which sometimes creates a detriment to performance or in other cases doesnt work period, Example, UT2004 takes a major hit with it on with a R300 Graphics card, so leave it off, Now i believe with ATI Tray Tools or ATI Tool you can create Custom Profiles for games so you can have AI on and off.

It's an AGP.

AMD Athlon 3200+
2GB RAM
Windows XP

With that system and Mobo I got, there wasn't much else for me to do besides get that video card. I wanted to upgrade to prepare for Age of Conan without buying a whole new rig. When I tired to install the drivers for the thing, the CD I go with my card appeard to be blank :twitch: doesn't read the thing. So I found 8.4 hotfix drivers from Saphire's website, but I'm not impressed. I don't seem to be getting much of a performance boost from my Nvidia 7800GS. Sometimes it's a slight boost, other times it seems to be less. I don't have any benchmarking tools so I don't have any exact figures. Any other dirvers I've tried besides that one 8.4 hotfix from the website won't recognize my card. You guys have any advice as far as drivers and/or boosting performance?

try 8.4 non hotfix, most AGP user's are using the 8.4 hotfix. but if you have no luck then go back a step.

Well i don't use AI due to my main game being Armed Assault. As it is recommended being turned off. Maybe when Arma 2 comes out but it's a no no for Arma.

See arma still uses a very old game engine that don't do to well with AI.

Thanks all the same.
