wow so CCC wont keep my OC and sets the core clock to lower than the default (all the way down to 610mhz) dropped my 3dmark06 score by 3000 points. I am running XP64 bit. i tried rivatuner to OC my gpu but i dont know how to use it. i go to power user then to OC current device and set the OC and click ok and it does not work.

Hillarious how a BETA uitility made by someone who is not paid by AMD and relies on the public to support him works perfectly.

cannot install this new released driverpack, even with fresh install of O.S, is my 4850 with bios modded was the problem?

seem like catalyst 88 ive downloaded from amd/ati site is corrupt, it just 39.53MB in size (said was 43MB), im downloading from tpu and the size was correct, and ill try again soon...

aaah, i still cant install it in my rig, whats wrong?

after some time look around in other thread, i found this cat88 cant install if bios overdrive limit higher/different from stock bios...
ssshhhh, so i prefer stay in 87, very disappointed.

Has anyone tried the fan control tweak (for a 4870)? I looked at the XML file in 8.8 and it seems to have a different schema than one's I see from 8.7.

Seems the 8.8's are not advisable for people running XP64 specifically.
On XP64 the drivers are handled differently anyway than on 32bit windows, and there's the folder issue, the wow64 system of XP64 intercepts and transfers calls to the 32bit folders to different folders automatically (same for the registry), but that can go wrong depending on how the software tries to access those folders and what software, so uninstalling can screw up too in worst case scenarios.

some people said it, just cant install when change value of overdrive limit, then just work when refresh with original bios again..., but if i use stock bios and tune with agct the powerplay feature doesnt work...
i have downloaded 2 version ati catalyst pack ver 88, from amd/ati site (~39MB+~20MBdriver) and from tpu server (~43MB), both cant install at mine...
have any clues why i cant install it?

Its your modified BIOS, hacking the fan controls is fine and works with all drivers, voltage (on 4870) and/or raising CCC OC limits (all cards) will cause this with any driver after 8.7 official. There are threads in the RBE section and at xtreme that mention this.

New RBE should be out today and fix this.

Hmmm...I haven't heard of any legit performance gains yet. Tweaktown shows a few slow downs and a few improvements. Think I will skip over 8.8...I have no complaints with 8.7

I've got 4870, flashed with bios moded in RBE 1.14 (my cards original bios, with modified pretty much everything, lower volts, fan tables, clocks in 3d and 2d etc) and it works fine in both XP SP3 32bit and Vista SP1 64bit. In XP I've used both CCC and ATT and runs fine. In Vista, only CCC cos so far haven't installed ATT there (64bit, driver protection etc)

I had problems in Vista, but because I've installed directly on top of 8.7. No restart needed. But Crysis bench was crashing bigtime and system would hang. After uninstalling everything ATI related, and cleaning with Driver Sweeper (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) everything is fine now with 8.8, with CCC, with profiles changing fans and clocks, etc.. No crashes, no problems, and even increased Crysis bench score.

EDIT: Oh, you can also try using Driver Cleaner Pro http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 or Driver Cleaner .NET (http://www.drivercleaner.net/ - beware, this one is NOT freeware)
