I've reverted back to 9.11 too many bugs I noticed with 9.12

It seems they've optimized these for Vantage and some newer games plus eyefinity and crossfire... but still with bugs. It seems these drivers are to help the cards "look better" on tests to someone trying to make a decision to buy a card.

I think the problem is in the expectation. There is a huge difference between hoping and expecting. I think ATI it still too busy supporting a new OS, new GPU series, and a new DX version to be able to push performance. I'm fairly confident they will have more performance oriented drivers in the next few months but for right now they're just trying to make sure their card don't crash when running one of the 100000 applications it "supports".

Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying you shouldn't criticize ATI when they completely screw up. Of course their supply chain is absolute $hit right now and they have other issues as well.. but at least they have their new series up and running.

Anyway. I'm not really contributing to the OP in the tread so I'll stop myself now.

You're right abt ATI, and although I'm disappointed with 9.12, I am still an ATI fan and will be. I am using ATI cards since RADEON started....

+1 Although Am I the only one getting great returns from this Driver? But It sucks not too many others are.... but that doesn't change how I feel about ATI Radeon!

I noticed a small dip in FPS, but games seem to have "smoothed out" somehow. I don't know how to explain it, but I'll take the dip overall for a smoother experience.

if youre talking about dirt 2 don then it's because they have removed features.

for me anyway. I am trying to get my system back to the way it was before installing 9.12

Ive tried erockers way and now Im on 9.11 but vantage keeps drawing flashing textures and missing models.. ninja blade has missing models.

drive in cockpit mode on dirt 2.. hit a mud puddle and see if the water reacts as if wind is pushing it up the windshield.. that effect no longer exists for me.. now the water just goes away with one swipe of the wiper.. no turbulence effect

might have to reinstall OS because of this.. dont know what else to do. these drivers fu$$$ my whole $h1T up

Just some thoughts from a long time ATI user (enough so that I have an archive of CAT versions going back through the 6 series for both x86 and x64 platforms) . . .

I don't see much, if any, performance increase - based on the posted results . . . what increase there is appears more like standard margin of error associated with typical benching.

Not sure how you're running your benches, but I'd highly advise to run the benches at least 5 times in a row, and average the results . . . it'll give you more accurate results, compared to only running the bench once.

Asides . . . you might see some occasional gain in applications that aren't listed in the release notes - this is typically due to certain tweaks at the driver level that other applications can make use of. The reason they're not listed in the notes is simply due to the fact that the developers were not focusing on those applications . . . only the ones that are listed in the notes.

As well . . . I'd like to through out the reminder that video card drivers are not always intended to increase performance with any and or all series cards. Keep in mind that new driver versions have always been aimed more at stability and resolving issues, moreso than performance. Personally, I think too many users have become jaded into thinking that there must always be some kind of system-wide performance boost with a simple driver update . . . and that's not always the case. Occasionally, you'll see a step back in performance if there are stability issues they're trying to resolve. I can distinctly remember CAT 7.8 and 7.9 being like this with the X1900 series.

So, to sum it all up . . . one can not expect a new driver release to be a system-wide "magic wand."

BTW - I have not tested Call of Priyat, simply for the reason that the notes specify single card setups . . . I don't see a point to test for an increase that more than likely does not apply to my system.

So far, my experience with 9.12 is mixed as well.
In 3DMARK Vantage I lost just over 100 points (15111, was 15234), so that's not really worth noting, cosidering their trademark crappy physics & sloppy coding.
In Unigine I went from 56.2/1416 to 100.2/2524 - a noticeable performance increase. Very smooth indeed.
FurMark yielded a performance hit as well, going from about 8900 to 8200 (already crappy in itself), though the biggest hit was in min. FPS, which went from 116 to 102(!). Not.Good. :wtf:
DiRT 2 is a mixed bag. The new driver now (finally) allows me to ALT-TAB out of the game & also increased the overall performance remarkably (everything at the highest settings (including those in CCC: avg. 59.9/min 36.8 - now: 68.6/55.4) if I have VSync OFF!
With VSync ON, I get no better than 30.4/22.1 (!) & it shows in the game. Stutters galore, to the extent it's now unplayable with it on.
However.. with VSync off, it's fast - very fast, but I get occasional tearing. This is natural, of course, but a tad annoying :banghead:
I don't have the probs mentioned above in losing any of the effects, like the water splash on the windscreen - these all work as before.
As an aside; I gained a massive 2FPS (yes, count them .. all two of them) on average in GTA IV.
Par-tay! :pimp:
OK, I'm over it now ;)

These figures I have quoted are an average after 7 runs in each respective benchmark, as compared to the 9.11 driver, with all benches at their respective default settings.
My XFX HD 5850 is running 775/1125/63% fan speed - set through CCC, as all other benchmarks show me no worthwhile performance gain from OCing any further, without introducing voltage increases (thus, power consumption) or causing instabilities in Folding@Home. Must be a sweet point of sorts for my card.

It seems a little odd to me, that many people here have differing experiences, with something that should be fairly consistent across the board, OS notwithstanding.

Anyone for v9.13?
:p

can someone with a 5850 or 5870 show me a 3dmark 06 score?

Meh, they aren't the greatest. SM 2.0 is getting old and these cards don't seem very optimized for it. I would stick to Vantage.

just wanted for comparison. I think I have myself set back up the way it was before 9.12 drivers.

just tested L4D2, Mw2, Dirt2 and I'm getting no noticable stutter and solid framerates. cs:s all maxed out on everything 445fps avg on video stress.

this is the o6 run i was looking for a comparison to. seems its right there with a 4870x2 so it seems like its running optimal.

WTF?! Yeah, I have absolutely put no credence into 3dMark06 anymore. Your score beats my score by 2000 points. I'm using CrossFire 5850's and a 4ghz PII. Vantage and games are right where they should be. Am I missing a 3dMark06 patch or hotfix or something? 3dMark06 might as well just be an indicator of how much you paid for a CPU now, I should say CPU performance.

Ok, but what about the score? Is the score that much higher because of the CPU or is there a different problem on my end? Patch/Hotfix for 3dMark06? It just doesn't make sense that a single 5770 with a 4ghz i7 gets 2000 more points than CF 5850's with a 4ghz PII. Can you do a higher resolution run? I'm thinking, using the lower resolution a lot is offloaded the the CPU. With 8 threads (even 4 threads with HT off) the i7 is obviously going to get a better CPU score. Maybe CF is broken for the SM 2.0 tests. Maybe CF isn't working at all in this for me. I haven't tried w/ new drivers yet or with a single card. Must find out. Blargh! This is madness.

Heh, if I were running 9.10's it would. You need to download again.

Ok, I feel a little better. Clock to clock what would an i7 need to be at the level of a 4ghz PII? 3.6ghz? I should just quit with this benchmark for real.

Allright, then things make much more sense. If you wouldn't mind can you do a higher resolution run? CPU clocks shouldn't matter so much. I'm just concerned how the cards are working with this. :toast:

As high as you can go, which I assume is 1920x1080? 1920x1200 if you can. :)
