Decided to upgrade my Celeron e3300 which is a very good CPU, just wanted a nice powerful Intel System. So i am going to order sometime next week. Here is what i have in mind. Trying to go as cheap as possible alright.

Intel Core i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Tur...

BIOSTAR H61MU3 LGA 1155 Intel H61 HDMI USB 3.0 Mic...

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333...

or should i get this computer:

Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz 4 x 256KB L2 C...

Only reason why i have the other one listed , is because i thought the Tubro Boost feature will be cool. But what do you guys think?

Btw I only game at 1280x1024 or 1280x720 at max settings and i have a XFX 5750 1GB GDDR5 card.

if your trying to reduce costs buy a 2500k, its about 1/10 less powerful but about £70 cheaper

Now it comes to 351 dollars. Not bad. Yea that is good, thanks. I thought the i7's were mind blowing faster tho. Oh well. I just want a nice quad core. :) Question about the turbo boost, is that safe OC, ?

yeah its where the cpu clocks itself using its power meters to stay within tdp, you can even use turbo boost to overclock on lower end models, the 1366 boards have a large i7/i5 difference but the 1156 did not, this will likely be the same lga2011 cpu's being released in q3 will have a large difference between i5/i7 again

If you want a nice midrange system, buy an i7 2000 series chip.

If you're going to overclock, get a 2500K or 2600K and pair with a P67. If not, drop the K and get an H67/P67.

2500K vs 2600K is basically hyperthreading. Not true extra cores, but they do offer a performance boost. I'd say the 2600K performs around what a 6-core would perform at.

I have a question what is the difference between the i5-2500k and this one:
Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.4GHz Tur...

Because its really no point in buying the higher price one if the 189 one is the same just lower speed. 3.1 to 3.4ghz is fine with me, turbo boost / quad core is what i want. So i might just get the 189 one , unless there is a big difference from the i5-2500k

The K processors have an unlocked multiplier hence the higher cost. Sandy Bridge doesn't really overclock well just on base clock alone.

Oh thats it, well i don't OC so um the 189 will be the best for me. I do plan on using that turbo boost tho. Anyways, thanks for all the help. Going to order everything next week :) I am so into building now.

That's a rather misleading statement. They don't overclock well on base clock alone... but they overclock great when you just bump the Multiplier up. As for the original issue the i5-2500 is fine if you're not going to OC.

Question, is having Hyper-Threading Support important for game performance?
If having Hyper-Threading Support is very important, i will buy the 2600 i7 , but if its not, i am just going to go with the i5 2400 on k which is $189.

Most games today can't even take advantage of 4 threads let alone 8.

sure they do... you just only see people with K chips OCing because thats the cool thing to do.

with all these "unlocked" chips out now everyone is too lazy to do old fashioned fsb/bclk OCing.

on that note, how far have you been able to clock yours? would be nice to see if an experienced clocker could take the non k's as far as the k's go.

When you can only adjust base clock a few mhz, it's only so helpful. Problem really comes in that the PCI-e bus is on the same clock generator.

You of all people should know this having first hand experience with it.

If you're looking at games, no, Hyper-Threading isn't important. FPS will be around the same as for i7 2600 and if you have a mid-range GPU, then there will be even less CPU bottlenecking/not giving maximum performance.

true but the pcie bus can be oced upwards of 25mhz before any issues arise.

alright thanks, i am just going to go with the i5-2400 3.1ghz quad core. Should be a nice upgrade from the e3300. Thanks :)

I think dual channel with two RAMs is just faster, the third ram from the Kingston would probably slow it until you have a fourth stick, assuming that all RAMS synchronise at the same speed.
