Hi

May want to take a look here ; as with all games if they are optimised for either Nvidia or AMD one side will do slightly better than the other.

Note: make sure to look at the system setup the review used when benching ~ weaker systems may have different resaults +/- a few fps

The GTX 770 is about 3-4% faster than the 280X. It all depends like Law said. Each card has it's strengths in certain games, based on what you play at the moment, you can decide whether or not to keep your 280X.

Couldn't find a review that uses the Catalyst 13.12 drivers, but the 760 MARS review has some of the most recent drivers in comparison with the GTX 770 and R9 280X so it would be an accurate estimate of how they perform lately: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/MARS_GTX_760/

It will be smoother, Nvidia drivers will see to that. I had an R9 270x which was actually faster than my current GTX 760 fps wise. However, alot of games would have random stutter issues, smaller games, indie games and some AAA title. Put in the 760 and I haven't had any issues on any game since, no changes to anything else in my system.

Have a look here these are some of the titles that have been optimised for AMD hardware; should be able to make an informed decision

Just like the 660ti OCed in my buddies PC plays games smooth. It doesn't. It works fine on newer games, but fails at deus ex HR, condemned criminal origins and even dementium 2. It plays bioshock infinite practically maxed out, though. Nvidia is overrated.

I have a very similar setup to him (same OS and main components) except AMD cards and I don't have any problems. Fresh system install on his PC, too.

If I were do bother, id try an get a GTX780 instead. Its more or less a sidegrade of what you would be doing, and you lose 1GB of memory.

I can only offer what I have experienced, both recently and in the past. All those games play smooth as anything maxed on my setup (even downsampled at a higher res). Get your buddy to check his system :)

That's kind of the point. There's not much rhyme or reason sometimes, but nvidia doesn't always work right, either.

Sidegrade. Besides, we don't know the system specs. The system could be bottlenecking the card in there now.

I really don't think it's worth it mate. Unless you just want something new to play with. If so, go for it.

The CPU/Mobo upgrade isn't really worth it, but if you can make a quick profit selling that 280X I'd say go for it.

If you are gaining cash out of the deal (in UK 770's can be had cheaper than the 280x), then and only then would I bother, not enough in them to warrant the efforst of opening the case and re-installing drivers, but then again I am lazy :)

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
sounds like it would not be worth it at all... I doubt one card will be that much smoother than the other - but then again who knows. Ive always preferred nVidia, but when I build rigs for friends with newer AMD cards, they always run buttery smooth as well.

Last time I noticed a visible difference in smoothness was 4870 vs gtx260.

So I finally decided to try out the gtx 770 from Asus and I am not disapointed at all ... I get better fps and I don't get the stuttering I used to with the 280x.

With that being said, I am very happy with my decision and probably will never go back to AMD.

Yep. And that's exactly what I got also. A butter smooth gaming experience compared to the hit and miss nature of my previous AMD card.

Have fun and enjoy the card :)
