Arctic Cooling MX-2 is VERY cheap and decent.

MX-4 is better, and only a little bit more.

take in cosideration that:
Is gonna be possible that that crap gets pasted between your CPU IHS and also your block/ cooler,
Is gonna be possible that you will have to lap your IHS / Cooler for taking out that crap....

you still on time to try something better, dont botter using it when there are several cheap alternatives on TIM, also most of 4Grs presentations are decent priced, no more than $10 on the expensive ones for a decent tube that might last several years and builds,

Take the follonwing link on consideration for making a great purchase and use, instead using that crap you just purchased,
Thermal paste applied on your GPU / CPU, survey!

there you could see some reviews, coments and also look the most recomended paste for several applications!

PECHE... NO, Arctic Silver 5 IS NOT AN OPTION ANYMORE! it's dead in the water, too many cheaper option outperform it, even if it's for -1° C

well thermal pad from coolaboratory are not bad... i wouldn't call them crap ... i used some on GPU (with IHS ) definitely not a crap ... (well it's not AS5 ... easy to not be ) but also definitively not what i would use on a CPU ...

@Durvelle27 the choice was easy ... Arctic MX-2/4, Gelid GC-Extreme, Noctua NTH-1 (well ... not the best choice ... a tad expensive and almost on par with the AS5 ... very "noctua-esque") thermal Grizzly Aeronaut (the cheapest from them, and still head and shoulder above AS5 ), Cooler Master MasterGel Maker (reluctant to recommend it as it is a "nano diamond" type and god i hate IC7/24 more than AS5, but that one is cheap and from a reliable brand) or Thermaltake TG1

wow ... in fact it's for a water loop ... THEN don't go cheap ... pfeh ... (not that any of the mentioned above wouldn't be fit for it ... but still )

Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut
Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut

unless delid, those 2 are the best. (i use the later )

well on a normal price range ... AS5 is priced like the top one ... while it's the bottom one, now ... overpriced=/=cheap and AS5 is the first and not the later o_O

all other 4g tube TIM i see at my retailer/etailer are cheaper than the 3.5g tube of AS5 ... so how it fits in the "cheap" category when it's not cheap ... retailer/etailer manufacturer need to step down from their pedestal and realize that TIM is not top notch anymore (and since long ago now ) and lower the price ... and then maybe it would be right to recommend it again but as a "cheap" option for "beginner" build and low end  (i know, i am mean ... toward AS ... but they truly deserve it now  )

in fat those thermal pads are meant to be used over ram or other surfaces, not over GPU die nor CPU die either...
WRONG ;)

Liquid metal pad are not the usual thermal pad strip for RAM, they exist in GPU and CPU type, altho they can leave some residue on the heatsink and IHS, they behave quite good... but they are not cheap to boot ... so definitely not the best option over a Kryonaut or a Hydronaut ... (unless the OP had a nice price deal on them ... )
metalpad1.jpgliquid_metalpad_1xcpu.png

funny GPU imprint :)
62_liqpadgpu.jpg

also performances wise it's not bad
43803.gif
(ohhh i know what i should use on my X1950XT super AGP ... :D )

also one review i saw had interesting pro/cons
Pros:

  • Easiest thermal component I have ever used
  • No Mess
  • Easy Clean up
  • Beat Arctic Silver
Cons:

  • Burn In To Reach Peak Efficiency
  • Price Doesn't Justify Switching From AS5
altho the AS5 and other TIM have nearly no burn in ... in the end yep ... more expensive than the AS5 (but still beat it .... for me as long as it beat the AS5 it's worth it, which mean any TIM after the Arctic cooling MX-1  )

(I AM MR. TIM ... i should have done the Thermal paste applied on your GPU / CPU, survey! thread... )

completely understand your point, but mine is the price range, all TIMs little presentation is under $10 so make them cheap, also the difference in price between AS 5 and AC mx4 is less than $2 ... so that's why i did put it on cheap or normal price

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
but still i rather AC MX4 over it
SO DO I! ... tho i am lucky to have a ample supply of Thermal Grizzly TIM available at my etailer when i need it (well ... i also have a ample supply of them, and GC-Extreme, in my drawer ... who knew ... EKWB bundle their cpu block with EKWB branded GC-Extreme tube  way to go EK .... way to go! the only that is still ... brand new is the AS5 that i keep mostly for collection .... i need to buy some CM MasterGel Maker and a new MX-4 tube nonetheless ... i am a TIM'Aholic)

after testing the Hydronaut during my Poseidon time ... now the Kryonaut ... dwarf any other past, i used, to oblivion ... at a price but also what performances!
Thermal Grizzly never cease to amaze me ... again ... mostly tempted to open the Conductonaut and delid my i5 ... or not ... it can wait :p

Thermal Grizzly doesn't look bad for $10

both are good .... if it's me i will obviously go for the Kryonaut .... but objectively the GC-Extreme is so close to the Kryonaut performances that 2.22$ more for the Kryonaut is not worth it.

short: the GC-Extreme is the best deal in that situation

ALTHOUGH.... 8.44$ for 1.0g? what etailer/retailer ... (what did they smoke? ) 4.0g at 7.50chf/7.75$ is the current price where i live

eBay

But every other place i looked is $12.99 for 3.5g
well at 8.44$ for 1g would make 3.5x 8.44 =29.54$ for 3.5g ...

12.99$ for 3.5g would be cheaper o_O
also ... pricing and quantity is odd ... GC-Extreme package are either 4g or 10g but never seen 1g or 3.5g ... it's really weird (and 12.99$ is the pricing for the 10g pot where i am ) ah 1g and 3.5g exist on Newegg i see ... (tho the pricing is ... off chart ... )

you could also give a shot at the GC-2 which was not bad at all
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA85V3N90085&cm_re=Gelid_GC-_-35-426-019-_-Product

altho price to quantity ratio (versus number of application)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...5426035&cm_re=Gelid_GC-_-35-426-035-_-Product
is really good .... i keep one for mass repast (computer maintenance and cleaning job is a hobby for me nonetheless)

for example Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut 1g is 5.50chf/5.68$
https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/thermal-grizzly-kryonaut-1g-1250wm-k-thermal-grease-5614395 (altho i always take the 5.5g instead, which remind me that i need to check if they have the 11.10g in stock ... )

really too bad i am not in the US ... otherwise i would have given you the GC-Extreme tube that was with my EK-Supremacy-Evo

happens to me ... didnt got any good result looking for it on ebay, but look at this:

Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut / 3.9 Grams
Arctic Cooling MX4 / Grams

Havent used TG yet, but the price is lower Arctic Cooling which i have been using long time ago, so thik about it and get normal or almost standar 4Grams syringe for future re-applications on other hardware,

really too bad i am not in the US ... otherwise i would have given you the GC-Extreme tube that was with my EK-Supremacy-Evo
i may like to ask about the paste, does it come with the GC label or the EKWB label?

i cant remember why i have this in my computer toolbox, some leftovers of this little bitch,, is the same one you have?
