Hello everyone, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to view this thread to begin with.

So I've been running my games on a decent laptop but I know that the game industries are improving how their games look and sound, even now I can't run games such as Battlefield 3 etc...

This is my first time building a computer and I want to make sure that I'm not going to waste my money on components that won't be compatible with each other. (I'll leave the links to where I am purchasing the products just in case.)

Components for the build:

CPU = Intel Pentium Dual Core G870 Processor
  • 3.10ghz
  • 3mb cache
  • socket 1155
http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B0088W0G9M/?tag=tec053-21

Motherboard = MSI H61M-P31-G3 Motherboard
  • 16gb RAM capacity
  • Socket LGA1155
  • Intel H61 Processor (Not entirely sure what this means.)
  • Gigabit LAN
  • M-ATX
http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B007QUPENU/?tag=tec053-21

Graphics Card = EVGA Nvidia GTX550Ti 1GB Vram
  • 400 watts
  • 192-Bit 3D
http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B004S5CCP4/?tag=tec053-21

PSU = OCZ OCZ600MXSP-UK ModXStream Pro 600W ATX
  • 600 watts
http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B001GLFD54/?tag=tec053-21

Ram = Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance (2x 4GB)
http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B004CRSM4I/?tag=tec053-21

HDD = Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive
http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B005F306RY/?tag=tec053-21

Case = CiT Vantage Type-R Gaming Case with HD Audio, 4 Fans, Card Reader
http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B0064LFTR8/?tag=tec053-21

CD Drive = Sony AD-7280S-0B 24x Internal SATA DVD Multi Writer Black Bare
http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B0057FRTPW/?tag=tec053-21

I know the last few don't have descriptions but most of it is in the name but if it's necessary, there is always the links with a better wright up than mine no doubt:peace:

If some parts aren't compatible then I would be most grateful if you could recommend something.

Primary use will be gaming and I'll be keeping my laptop to run skype and firefox for anything that I need. (BTW is there any way to make my PC and Laptop share the same audio or am I just that dumb :D)

Just did some browsing on amazon, A8 and A10 are out of my price range but this A6 caught my attention as it would be in my price range if I got rid of the listed Motherboard, CPU and Ram http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B009X9G95Y/?tag=tec053-21

Again it's compatibility that has me worried, at least as far as the bundle goes they're certain to function with eachother, just worrying about the other parts.

Thanks for showing me these bundles, some good deals amongst them. :)

Forget the A6, it's on-die graphics core is unsuitable for gaming. Intel H61 designates the chipset, not the CPU, it's the first socket 1155 chipset from almost 3 years ago - not really a set, now it's just the one chip, called the PCH (platform controller hub), handling the PCIe and USB ports etc, while the memory controller is now built into the CPU (used to be north bridge handled memory, south bridge handled PCI & ports, that's why it was called a chip set). The only problem with using an H61 board now is that it's SATA ports are only 3 GB/s, not 6 GB/s like the new boards, so if and when you install an SSD, it will be limited to about 250 MB/s read & write speeds. Still much better than hard drive speeds, but way behind the 500 to 550 MB/s you can get from some of the faster SSDs out now. But if that's not a consideration, an H61 board can be a great bargain. It's also an easy upgrade to an i5 or i7 if you decide to later.

Could you be more useless?

It will work fine. The case is butt ugly imo, but it'll work.

Will it be fast? No, not really. What resolution will you be playing at? An alternative would be looking for used parts.

buying bundles is a PITA, the cpu is always the expensive part on a bundle, to make a nice price to customers the seller needs to chop down the other parts (cheap ram, cheap mainboard)...

save a few more bucks and check reviews here on TPU, to be future proof.....

first thing to know is what CPU are you gonna use. check the socket that it uses, in this case the G870 uses LGA 1155.

The next step is find motherboards that you like that support LGA 1155. The H61M-P31-G3 Motherboard supports LGA 1155 so you are right. then check the mobo on what type of ports, sockets and connectors it uses. most of the time its uses SATA, DDR3 and PCIE 2.0, so all of the other components you mention are compatible with each other.

Other Tips: Check the mobo carefully because they have different "features" so to say, and the Chipset too, so research about that.

Not all video cards(especialy the high tiers) fit in every case so check the size of the GPU you're buying in relation to the CPU casing that your gonna use.

My advice:
If you're a budget gamer, My suggestion would be get an i3, I've used both Trinity(my cousins) and i3(my brother) with similar GPU configs and I found the i3 better imo. the rest of the config is fine, its just the CPU that is a bit lacking, although the G870 is actually great, its better than most Core 2 Quads

Hooray, a Brit.
BTW you can make an A8 5600k Build for under £400
Check Overclockers UK for their configurator if you cba to make a pc yourself, or check their bundles. It IS possible.
Shop around, Amazon isnt always cheapest.

Add VAT to Total and it's around £390

OCUk arent even the cheapest company, so you could get this but cheaper, easily.
Maybe even get a 7750 for what you save elsewhere.

Check:
Ebuyer, CCL Online, Scan.co.uk, OCUK, Dabs, Novatech, Pixmania. They will all have daily and weekly deals etc.
Call them up, most of them will price match just to get your business

Some of that is this week only. But that is a good system for under £400. The PSU Rcoon chose is overkill.

Overkill, but decent OEM :D Dont know about the Tauro PSU personally.
Also A55 is a good choice assuming he doesnt want to Overclock, which is why i threw on the A75, but you're probably right in assuming he wont overclock.

On the other hand he gets a 7770 instead.. Worth it IMO. :)

Completely! Not a bad system for the price at all.
Makes me want to make an A10 system just for fun in ITX.

those 7770s are terrible at gaming, my overclocked gts450 was on par with my 7770, it wasn't much of an upgrade and I was that disappointed I took it back and got the money back!

just my thoughts!

Something must have been wrong, or the 450 was overclocked like a beast. The 7770 is on par with a GTX 460.

well I wasn't shy with clocks, but I even ran a bench and they wasn't far apart.

in games it was good for about 30fps and dropped in demanding parts, maybe I expected too much from it lol

Well now I feel spoilt for choice, I'm really glad some people left some suggestions as it probably wouldn't have been that fast according to some. I thank you all for what information you have given me, some I'm a bit confused with but I get the gist of it. So my question now is about the suggestions, If I got these suggested parts instead would my system benefit overall?

BTW, the main reason I was interested in that specific gaming case was because of its fans and that I like the red with black combo :D

If you want specific colour schemes, expect your budget to expand in silly ways to accomodate. I would go with Frick's suggestion. Quad core and a decent graphics card, and on your budget is pretty good.

i would say as base component the mainboard, to be safe on socket to upgrade cpu/ram later on, it isn´t really clear for me what you really want ,
on left we have some G870-i5-i7 on the other AMD APU´s.
first you should think about the type of platform you would like to have or choose independent on budget to make a clearly decision.

It's just I've never been on an AMD system so I'm still trying to get to grips with it, my friend told me that you can get great bargains with AMD and after what I have seen of them, I'm entitled to agree with him. Yes I have always been on Intel based systems, I didn't build them so they're all I really know to working with. This is my first PC build and I must say I'm preferring my options with AMD over Intel. Either way I hope that clears it up :) and thank you for suggesting the main board as an AMD A10 cought my attention :D

fx4100 coped with all games apart from farcry3/crisis 3 where cpu always maxed out. pair it with a fairly decent gpu and you can play all games with med-high and sometimes ultra settings.

im sure you could knock one up with a 7850/70 and do pretty well.

and id suggest like notiert said choosing a platform and using it as a base to upgrade from.

I started with a cheap am3+ mobo/fx4100 and now ended up with some decent gaming rig, and I got all the spare parts which made a complete pc which I can sell later if wanted.

a 4100 is about £60 nowadays
mobo probs about £70 depending on what ya get, extreme 3 is pretty good to start a build with
