IIRC isn't the quickest card currently available the Leadtek 8800Ultra Leviathan (watercooled)

I can't remember if its quicker out of the box than the XFX model?

Whichever is quicker is the quickest lol.

The answer is 8800GTX/Ultra.

The best Value card (bang for the buck) has to be 8800GT or 2900PRO if you flash it. A lot of sites have begun a FPS per $$ graph, which helps a lot with bang for the buck comparisons.

......other than calming down...the GTX/Ultra is the fastest.....some claim the GT or GTS...but the fact is....if you think about it the ultra has more shaders...and the ultra's fastest OC is about what the other cards can get as their max because its build off the same core minus the new GTS and GT models so with that in mind the ultra is better due to the amount of shaders it has.

Doesn't the 8800 Ultra have the same number of unified shaders as the G92 based 8800 GTS? 128? and the G92 GTS has a higher shader clock? The 8800 Ultra gets away with a higher memory bus-width, the 256 MB of extra memory and memory speeds actually.

hey, why's it useless. what if a person had the money to buy any card he wanted, stumbled across this forum and found this thread, it would help him. i think it's a mature discussion, well it was while it was minus you. go find me a topic will evidence of the fastest card, up to date too. and why's the thread title "not proper", your use of "4" is alot worse mate. you're baiting a flame war here.

8800 Ultra, don't know if the cores are higher and if it can overclock better, but it's bigger bus and more memory causes it to beat out the new G90 8800 gts. Overclocking, don't really know. If you want the fastest system, Ultra no doubt because it can run tri-sli...but that's a load of crap, one Ultra is fast, two is set for the next like 2ish years, 3 is overboard.

$800 8800Ultra, which requires extra cash spent on a LCS to cool the thing (up the cost by between $80 and $200), and you're spending around $1000 for the video card alone. Getting a power supply to feed the thing will put you out another $150. $1150 = ouch.


Or....

$360 8800GTS G92, which includes a free copy of Crysis, has a beefy stock air cooler that doesn't require anything more to run, and a power supply that'll handle the thing is no more than $100 for a good one (it's on sale right now, $70 free shipping ). $460 gets you about the same performance as an 8800Ultra for a lot less cash, effort, and maintenance. Tell me, which one would you choose .

you know that once the res starts getting higher the 2900xt's fps comes down quite quickly.. also I would like to see some links to who did the benchmarks as I feel there could be some inequity in them.. maybe, seen that before.

fastest single card Ultra for sure.. now if you add liquid cooling from what I read in this thread than maybe the 2900xt "can" win at lower resolutions that is.


I thought the 2900pro were cards that did not do well as 2900xt's or something... some can flash to xt speeds others cannot so yeah you cant say a 2900pro is a full 2900xt... thats only if it flashes to xt speeds and even than chances are you'll get more OC out of a "certified" 2900xt.



Edit: I wish they would do some WR's for single card set-ups..

Any gaming benchmarks to back this up? I ask this as most 2900XTs running that sort of core clock are suicide runs on 3DMark going for the world record.

I beleive what he's quoting is why AMD show up in the benchies so often. They ARE suicide runs, so although some people will claim ATI have the top spot, for normal use Nvidia are still fastest (for now).

Just for reference: how old is this? I am aware that dark messiah was next to useless on the 8800 series when i played the game, but modern drivers have since fixed this speed issue.

Just to reference the GTS(G92) and GTX/Ultra both have 128 Stream processors however both the GTX and Ultra have more memory bandwidth (384bit vs 256bit) and also more crucially more Rops (24 vs 16), the latter of these two reasons is mainly why despite its significantly higher clocks the GTS still trails the GTX/Ultra in most benchmarks.
