Airplane games are a special genre, they're certainly not for everyone, not for me at least. Like racing games.

In other news I've been having fun with Control lately, you can play Toph Simulator and toss countless rocks at enemies.
Control is an underrated gem. If you haven't tried already, have a go with Alan Wake, made by the same studio (it also has a complete DLC in Control built around it, by the way).

oh shit, its already in my library... must have got it from some kind of humble bundle or something and not noticed. lmao

fantastic. thanks adding it to my favorites section so i dont forget about it

to you i recommend Combat Wings Battle of Britain, its like a 1-2 hour long campaign, but a lot of fun for those 1-2 hours... I think it took me 3 hours in total to beat it, but I had fun, and it was like $3-5 on sale, i forget. can't complain, cheaper than going to the movies.
Yep. It was in the Humble Monthly a year ago or so. I've found so many good games through that service.

I'll give Combat Wings a shot. Looks fun. Thanks for the suggestion!

Had a ton of fun in Control. Great story and the Ray Tracing looks spectacular if it's run on a beefy card.

Not chill. You start with 4 ships, I lost one by crashing it into the ground, two trying to shoot down a horde of enemies and the last one by purposedly ramming it into another enemy because the cannons were empty.

Total success.
Agreement. Who doesn't want to hear heavy breathing and literally every single alarm going off at once? Plus, you get those nice muzzle flashes.

(Beware: the time sink)
It's easy to 'pick up and put down', but I rarely find myself spending less than an hour playing it at a time.
Even once you 'get' the "rock, paper, scissors" gameplay, it remains rewarding and challenging.

Return to Monkey Island will be included with gamepass starting from next Monday.

I know you said no to anime games but Persona 5 Royal is also on gamepass right now and it's a timesink plus it's one of the best jRPG's of the past decade.

Can you start launching objects and rocks in Alan Wake? if so count me in.
Don't like raytracing, that's why I went for the 5700XT at the time instead of a 2070. Wake me up when devs use it for other than glorified dynamic lights that look the same as before but drop your FPS by 30%.

This is your wake up call.....it's already been used for far more than just dynamic lights and when you use it with a decent card, you can even get highly playable framerates.

It's ok, I'm just dumb, I know...

seriously though, I really do suck at puzzles in games, lol i mostly have to resort to youtube. it sucks. :/

You should be able to find a walkthrough for most games if you get stuck. Youtube is too time consuming. Some puzzles in games aren't intuitive at all. They are just frustrating. I recall a Sherlock Holmes game that I played. I think it was The Silver Earring and some of the puzzles were like that. I had to consult a walkthrough several times just to get through the game.

When you're done puzzling... these are almost all (top 2 excluded I think) games that I can just keep going back to, and they all give you the reins on how and what you want to play. That defines chill gaming, for me. The competitive element lies mostly with yourself and how well you master these titles; the learning curve is there, and that keeps opening up more fun. Some of the below is an absolute breeze, others are stupendously difficult, but they all have that same quality; you define what happens.

- Airborne Kingdom
Get on sale. It runs out of juice fast, but the juice it has, is super relaxing and fun. You build an... airborne city.

- No Man's Sky
Free form space exploration.

- Baldur's Gate 2 Enhanced
A life is not complete without a run of BG2. BG3 is incoming, and if you play 2, you'll go out to play 3 too. 2 is a massive time sink, think 60~100 hours easy just to get through the SP story. Runs in the original engine but has full HD support in Enhanced.

- Stellaris
Make your own version of Star Trek universe, or whatever you think is sci fi, dominate galaxy.

- Total War Warhammer 2~3
Two of the most expansive Total Wars ever, full asymmetry between factions makes the replay value immense

- They are Billions
Stronghold-ish base defense. Hordes of zombies. Unforgiving, high difficulty, but once you get the hang of it, the chill factor sets in and you start having fun more than sweat.

- Satellite Reign
Cyberpunk-y Syndicate spinoff, tactical real time. Fantastic for one or two playthroughs, somewhat open world-ish but isometric perspective. Immersion factor 10/10

-
Songs of Conquest
HOMM3 spinoff, in early access, but fully functional and damn enjoyable

-
State of Decay 2
Moar zombie survival, again with good flavor and has a distinct chill factor to it because you decide the pace of progress.

-
Mordheim City of the Damned
Turnbased tactical in full 3D engine, Warhammer lore, grim dark atmosphere and it sure can get exciting even against just AI. Build a war party of up to 10 characters, deploy, destroy an enemy party, and improve your own as you progress. Permadeath/injuries happen (losing eyes, arms, a leg...) for flavor with tactical repercussions. I find myself going back to it frequently even after 30 hours and a fully levelled party, pretty deep mechanics.

- Darkest Dungeon
Turnbased tactical in sidescrolling 2D, similar to Mordheim but still radically different, yet equally harsh on your mental state, if not much worse. The narrator alone is worth giving this a go. Again, this can get very exciting once you're into it, but you have lots of time to sit around and ponder your next move.

I know you've downloaded some games now but just giving a special shout-out to Broforce that is weirdly chill . Yes, a lot of enemies but so much fun. You can just blow the shit out of everything with various characters like Rambro, Brobocop, Indiana Brones etc... :D

Each have their own character specific weapons/abilities and special attacks. It's a lot of fun in small doses.

You can't, but it has a very unique gameplay and combat mechanics, just like Control. Just different. :) Not to mention its story which will make you drop your jaw.

They missed out on the female genitals. Or are they reserved for the expansion pack?

Dunno, but maybe Broforce and that absence have some relation to the company releasing said games? I honestly don't know, but I see some striking similarities

Or they couldn't quite get the physics aspect of said genitals done proper

Skyrim? Has a storyline, is relatively "easy" and relaxing depending on your playstyle, tons of content, tons of mods.

If you like management games a new Football Manager just came out. If you prefer baseball OOTP Baseball is also solid.

I own both Alan Wake and Control and neither game is "chill" in my opinion. Both are story driven yet also have plenty of combat episodes scattered throughout the story progression. I love both titles yet I certainly wouldn't recommend them as "chill games."

As for ray tracing, I really don't understand why people complain about it so much. I don't know of a single game title that requires the player to enable RT. If you don't like RT, keep it off. Just like motion blur, ambient occlusion, film grain, whatever. End of discussion.

Control is actually one of the few titles where ray tracing really shines because of the environment (lots of glass, wet floors, etc.). However it still looks great with RT turned off.

@caroline!

my chill game is called Lunar Flight. I go back to over and over throughout the years. you def want sound on for this, hearing that NASA vibe speak, and air whooshing sounds, etc. I personally find it very relaxing for some reason. and the physics are fantastic. its really fun flying a lunar rover around.

A whole new meaning to being a dick.

I still have the CSI: Hard Evidence physical game, received as a gift from an aunt because my dad told her I liked games. Ahh, no gift can be better than a videogame about crime, blood and drugs for your little 10 year old niece.
I could never finish the first level because I had no idea of what to do, I know, it's a police game, you're supposed to investigate who killed the victim, but it was such an odd game. I might give it another go, who knows.

I have one rule when playing games and that's NEVER looking up tutorials, cheats or tips & tricks to beat a level, a boss or simply advance in a puzzle, IMO it makes the game less interesting and it's certainly not the way I should play.

Skyrim? Has a storyline, is relatively "easy" and relaxing depending on your playstyle, tons of content, tons of mods.
I added WW2 machine guns, explosives, star wars lightsabers and maid outfits to it for my latest run. Imagine being a bandit and getting rekt by a maid using a lightsaber.
First I play normally, then I start adding mods until the game takes 10 minutes to load, looking at you Fallout 4.

I read an article a while back that stated that only around 60% of games that are started get finished. Reasons cited are that the game is a buggy mess. That can be avoided by waiting a couple of years to buy a game when it's finally patched and polished and researching a game before buying it. Another reason is that people say a game is too hard. There are trainers to get through the tough spots. Another reason is that people say they got stuck and couldn't finish the game. There are walkthroughs for that. Now I don't advocate not trying my best to get through the tough spots but it's no fun for me to die over and over again and have to replay large sections of a game.

I think I finish about 95% of the games that I start so that's well above average.

I have one rule when playing games and that's to have fun. If that means I need to peek at a walkthrough video, read a guide, or even use a trainer, so be it. I'm not a skilled gamer but I still want to have fun like everyone else. No need to spend hours and hours of frustration and struggle.

Morning everyone.

Can you recommend me some single player games to relax? not the Sims or simulators please. I have Train Simulator World installed and while it's cool it feels like a chore sometimes, and the missions are overly LONG, like there's a route in the UK that takes you 4 actual hours to complete, while I like it and the trains, playing for 4 hours straight without saving is just a no-go for me.

I like adventure and fantasy games but it'd be nice to avoid fighting hordes of enemies and grinding hours for a single item (looking at you Minecraft) while exploring, also space/sci-fi games, I've played No Man's Sky for a while and didn't like it, couldn't find the point of the game like there's no campaign or anything you have to guess your way through it and the learning curve is too steep.

How come there aren't more police or detective kind of games out there? L.A. Noire style, I loved it because of how unique the gameplay was. Same with Mirror's Edge.
I'm playing Control right now and it feels like a mixture of Prototype and the og Far Cry, it's fine, just not chill.

I don't like: 2D platformers, micromanaging units everywhere, anime games or VNs.
What is a VN?
Graphics and age of the game are mostly irrelevant, it's fine as long as it can run on a modern computer without too much extra downloads (emus, patches, etc.)
- Death stranding (because nothing is more chill than delivering packages across a wide lush landscape to rebuild America on foot while avoiding BT''s and bandits)
- Beyond Two Souls (I remember it being somewhat relaxing and compelling storyline)
- Battletech (who can argue with turn based strategy battle mech action against a backdrop of interactive storyline with a fair amount of reading to spur the imagination. Some might argue it's sci-fi but it's also war adventure/fantasy.

- Battletech (who can argue with turn based strategy battle mech action against a backdrop of interactive storyline with a fair amount of reading to spur the imagination. Some might argue it's sci-fi but it's also war adventure/fantasy.

VN = visual novel. it's a type of video game genre.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it before,
The Talos Principle.

It would be a 'chill' game with a mesmerizing soundtrack. Game also features some philosophical questions you'll encounter during the gameplay, questioning the meaning of life and our perception of it. Other than that, it has difficult puzzles at times that you will just 'need' to figure out. I also challenge you to find ALL the golden stars on all levels on your own, you'll be scratching your head. The Egypt level had me occupied for days. Great game for relaxing and thinking deeper thoughts.
