Choose between 2 used HDD

Hi.

I have 2 HDD and about to format my computer.

Samsung Spinpoint 250gigs 8M cache
100% performance in HDDLife
Zero defective cluster detected with HDtunbe pro at extended test.

WD Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS 320gigs 16M cache
65% performance in HDDLife
Zero defective cluster detected with HDtunbe pro at extended test.

Which one should you use? The almost new samsung with lower cache or the WD with more cache but 65% performance?

I'm not sure what this HDD life is, but if there's no defective clusters, I'd use the Blue. Same RPM, larger cache, more space.

However, I'd read a review or two and see what the actual throughput of the drives it. You never know, the Spinpoint may be a faster drive. I know my Spinpoint F3's would stomp that WD blue drive, even if the blue drive was in a RAID 0 config.

You can easily do a test on both.

Personally I would do the following-
chkdsk /R on both drives followed by a full format (not a quick)
Then I would run ATTO on both drives and see how they seem to be performing.

I was looking at the HDDLife webpage and they certainly don't do a good job explaining what "performance" means. Looks like a nifty set of tools to monitor for failures, even reports HDD temperatures. Don't know if I'd want that running in the background though.

I'd reccomend the WD too, if just for the buffer size. Other than that, the drives are pretty equal.
