Choosing a P35 board

I'm looking to buy a new mobo to run either a q6600@3.2gHz or an e8400@3.6gHz, and am pretty much set on a DFI P35 board since I will not be using crossfire (x38) and am not interested in ddr3 (x48). I know many people have recommended the DFI LanParty DK P35-T2RS, but I'm leaning more towards the DFI LP LT P35 T2R because it has two extra SATA connections... though I'm not sure if its worth the $45 difference in price. Also I read in another topic that the LT has better cooling? Recommendations on which board to get would be appreciated.

IF you can wait, I'd wait until the P45s start showing up.

If not, and you overclock, get that DFI one.

If you can't find that, go for either a Gigabyte P35-DS4, or Abit IP35-Pro.

When are the P45's coming out and any word on what the pricing on them will be? Also, any major improvements over P35?

Well it's PCI-E 2.0, supports all the new 45nm chips out of the box, coupled with the new ICH10R southbridge (not completely sure on the difference between that and the current ICH9R to be honest).

And, i know you have no interest in Xfire, but it uses 8x and 8x for Xfire instead of 16x and 4x and because it's PCI-E 2.0 it's double the bandwidth (so effectively it's 2 PCI-E 1 16x slots :p)

I'm lovin my DFI Lanparty P35 Dark...great board. Has similar BIOS to LT series, sure the NB runs toasty, but oh well it's within safe parameters, mine hits about 43C load, some have seen around 50C which DFI states is safe.

Here check these places out:

I highly recommend it if you have OC on your mind. I was able to effortlessly hit 500FSB without any issues...and many others with this board have. It has a lot of options, but as long as you're familiar with the basics (voltage, bus speed, ram timings, etc), you'll be just fine. I also recommend using the 4-pin Floppy power connector next to the PCI-e 16 slot as I found slightly more stable voltages when using this along with the 24-pin and 8-pin power connections.

EDIT: I purchased mine at NCIXUS.com a few weeks ago...http://www.ncixus.com/products/27638/LP DK P35-T2RS/DFI/

Sure the price stings a bit, but it's a great board and I'm very content with my purchase. I don't plan to go CF in this build or any time soon, so a 1 slot PCI-e 16 was perfect for me. And checking stock, seems they still have around 15+ still in stock.

I have the DFI P35 T2RS, and I would highly recommend it, it's a perfectly stable motherboard with amazing BIOS options. So many options, even the veteran overclocker will have to look up what a few of them are. Unfortantly the manual that comes with the T2RS is useless, so your main support for the BIOS will be from other DFI users on forums, but most of the stuff is pretty self explanatory. As long as you have no need for firewire and Crossfire, then the DFI P35 T2RS is the best P35 board on the market.

The layout of the board is also perfect, everything is in a great spot, and its worth paying the $10 more for the Lanparty Dark T2RS over the Blood Iron T2RL for the better board layout and color scheme. They also throw in some rounded cables which is nice if you still got a IDE drive or two.

I got my Xeon X3210 easily to 3.2Ghz with just 1.264v, which is much lower voltage than many people I know needed to get their G0 stepping Q6600/X3200 series to the same speed.

Does anyone know for sure if a Zalman CNPS9700 will fit on the DFI LT P35 T2R or the DK?

I've got this Mobo after having the Abit IP35 pro (spare one now) and I can recommend this one. Very easy to play with the Bios. The only probelm it has is that it is tight around the SATA connecters if you put in a large GFX card but easily rectified by using SATA cables with elbow joints
