Chrome - bug or feature? Can record audio/video without visual indicator

I didn't notice this posted anywhere here using the search function or I horribly overlooked it.

A day or two ago it's been reported that Chrome has a bug (Chrome says it's not a bug) that sites can record audio/video without a visual indicator showing it is doing such a task.

If I'm understanding this correctly what you're saying is similar to what flash would do when it asks if it can access your mic or your camera or to store off-line data ,chrome is instead not asking and beyond that is listening and watching through these devices ? Thats f@cked up

The source in one of those links says there is no indicator but they do need permission it seems kind of hazy and vague

Sounds like Chrome is acting like spyware if it allows surreptitious recording like that.

certainly disheartening. hopefully it is resolved asap (unless indeed there is no intention to resolve anything)
