On December 18th, 2006, Cisco released a set of Skype compatible wifi phones, basically claiming the iPhone name. Cisco and Apple had been talking about who should rightfully get to use the iPhone name since then. When Apple unveiled it's iPhone at Macworld this year, Cisco sued. Cisco wants to halt all sales of the Apple iPhone.

Apple Inc. did a big "no no"

Would you think a big company like Apple who has been around the block with trademark issues in the past would know better. There must be more to this and meets the eye. Apple is can't be that stupid! They must have known prior what exzactly what CISCO's reaction would be. This sue over iphone should not be a surprise to Apple. They must have a case and already reviewed with their lawyers that using this trademark is justified.

Anyway, I would fire the market guy at Apple. The could easily used a different name. They are bragging about how this is the next generation phone so why use conventional naming in the product itself?

Why did they use AppleTV instead if iTV? I think iTV was already used correct? Anyway, I can't figure why they would do it. It does not help them but go into the court room and spend money.

This isn't even close to the first time Apple has pulled this and released a product under a name that someone else had the trademark to. Usually apple ends up winning because they are a big company and the other company is small and can't defend themselves, or is very willing to settle for large amounts of money.

The problem here is that Cisco is just as big, if not bigger than Apple. So now the news is covering it and everyone is looking on to see what is going on.

I have no idea why they didn't call it the iCell or iMobile. Then again, they are probably keeping those names for the upcoming Apple Prisons and Cars
