Comodo Internet Security Free any good?

As the title says.

Me and my parents are currently using Comodo Firewall Free with Windows defender on windows 8.1 with malwarebytes free installed for a monthly manual scan.

We never had any problems with this combo but I was thinking if we would start using Comodo Internet Security Free would make it somewhat easier.

Is anyone here using this?
If so what's your experience using it?

I've had issues with Comodo products, and don't generally recommend them, been burned by too many issues, bugs, and disappointments in previous years, so my direct experience with a newer version of CIS is nil. But there are others here that have had better experiences. But some folks really do seem to like Comodo products, and I am sure CIS would be decent enough. I believe @Frag Maniac uses Comodo products still I believe so he might be able to chime in.

Frankly depending on how many PC's you're using, going with MBAM Premium might be a good idea... it's pretty affordable and covers 3 PC's for the 1-year license. MBAM 3 is pretty solid at this point. Kaspersky is another good option IMHO. For another free option, I'd look at Avast.

Another option is doing some DNS filtering and management. Sign up for OpenDNS Home (it's free), change the router's DNS to their servers, make DHCP service on your router give the router IP for DNS. Then manage the DNS filters, that can make a nice and easy difference in site security and content filtering without hampering your system or network performance. You don't NEED to sign up for OpenDNS Home to use their servers, but if you want to filter what is and isn't allowed at your site, then you need an account. Has an agent you can put on a PC or service you can use on some routers (I've used on my Ubiquity EdgeRouter, PFSense router and even an old Linksys with DD-WRT) so that way if you're running a dynamic ISP connection, and your public IP changes your DNS service doesn't lose your filter settings. Works great and is easy to do, totally worth it, especially being free.

Google DNS is a good DNS, but you don't get the filtering abilities and control you can have with OpenDNS. This may or may not be important to you, but it is great to use in combination with local security solutions like better router firewalls and security software on workstations.

I've used OpenDNS at home for years, mostly to keep my boys off of inappropriate sites (even if by accident), but they update it regularly to keep malicious sites as not allowed to. Also having blacklist/whitelist for your entire network on their Home control center is nice. Has been an excellent service, and their enterprise-grade Umbrella service is pretty kick ass for filtering, monitoring, reporting, etc. I've deployed their services to quite a few clients...it is an excellent supplement to standard security that shouldn't be overlooked. ISP DNS isn't good enough, and in many cases, neither is Google DNS (if you're looking for DNS content filtering/security that is).

You should give it a test run, you might like it, you might not. Hell you could simply change your primary DNS to an OpenDNS server as a test run. There's other DNS options out there too...but OpenDNS is one of the faster ones that also allows for filtering services.

I used to use Open DNS all the time! But then I saw google DNS popping up and changed it.
Maybe revert to Open DNS then if it's better.

We don't have any kids using our computers though.

Relatively easy to set up and maintain for most people
Probably one of the Best of the FREE ones available

You have to remove some stuff they bundle in with it now. There is usually a yahoo/google search engine with home page.

Geek buddy and Dragon. It's a part of the software suit but both parts are useless to me. And they add some widgets and popups to the desktop that I don't like.

Once those bits are gone it seems to work perfectly well. Not had a virus in many years.

Keep in mind it also helps block malicious sites, between that and the web filter that many modern AntiVirus solutions seem to come packed with is a great combo for keeping PC's from browsing bad shit in the first place. Not just for the kids anymore.

I just had a short conversation on the phone with my dad, he said he wants to try it on his desktop (socket 775, win 8.1 on SSD) first.
Sunday I will be visiting my parents and install Comodo Internet Security Free then and see how it goes.

I know i tried using a spoofed email address and it never updated :
used genuine /real email address and it updates with no problems

Thanks, didn't know we needed to activate a FREE version by email, but ok we'll see that Sunday then.

I use Comodo Firewall+Avira antivirus, for years, both free versions...Comodo av don't look too good to me, but I think it is better than Defender...

Anyways I did read some reviews and Comodo Internet Security wasn't that good and all...
Found that Avast Free was one of the best, instead of defender I'm using Avast Free+ Comodo Firewall now.
Sunday I will install Avast for my dad as well.
No need for email.

Well I wanted to send an email yesterday and at first it wouldn't send... Not sure if it's OpenDNS related but I reverted back to Google DNS, I only set it in my network adapter within windows anyway.

I also uninstalled Avast....
It was causing many problems as I could see that in the Reliability Monitor and in Windows Event viewer....

After uninstall Windows Defender wouldn't startup, unable to fix it with a registry fix as found on the internet....

Luckily my system made a system restore point 2 days ago and I did a system restore.

All good , just comodo firewall was messed up, reinstalled that and finally it seems I'm back now.

No more other anti virus try-outs for me!!!
It can really mess up your system..

Hmm...haven't seen issues with Avast recently like that, but it can happen. Did you still have Comodo installed when you tried Avast?

I use Gmail as my primary personal email through Windows 10's email app and via web browser, while using OpenDNS on my network with no issues. I would wager to guess whatever happened with Avast might have been the culprit behind that as well.

Modern AV solutions have so much to them, yes they can screw up your system if something goes wrong or a part of their deployment process is blocked by competing software. Good job keeping restore points!

Comodo is doing some weird stuff which doesn't work well with avast!. And while it wasn't avast!'s fault, they were doing some compatibility fixes recently.
