Compooter cleaning juice!

So I know 90% rubbing alcohol is mainly used for cleaning computer parts but the store only carries 70% and 99%. Are both safe to use on say, a GPU bath?

The ideal is AT LEAST 80%, with 90% better. 70% has too much water. If those are your only choices, I would get 99%. I have never seen it that high before, though! It's always 70, 80, or 90 where I live.

It won't wreck anything right? I'll be using it to clean off old paste from the GPU/CPU and heatsinks.

No, it will not hurt anything. You can scrape most of the gunk off with a paper towel, if it hasn't hardened, and use alcohol and cotton swabs on the rest.

You know, that hadn't even occurred to me. It stands to reason then that the highest I have seen is 90%

I figured Walgreens would have 99% but they don't here.

Try Walmart,and ask at the pharmacy. Its kept behind the counter...

also you can use:

i have use it to clean out heatsinks and also Processor IHS...
When cleannig with it be sure to let all the parts dry properly...
if you can get this for cleaning CPU / GPU IHS will be better:

worlds best CPU / GPU cleaner, also works for Heatsinks, coolers and Waterblocks....
you can clean your CPU / GPU PCb with the Isopropyl alcohol or contact cleaner ....

70% and 99% is all I have here as well. I always assumed that was the standard. I have access to 100% alcohol but I dont see when I would ever need that.

its by volume not absolute purity also its ethanol not "alcohol" rubbing alcohol is a combination of distilled water and ethanol/isopropyl-alcohol both of which are in a liquid form in there pure states tho the evaporate readily

I just wanted to add if your removing old thermal compound you can make sure it is good and warm before you start removing the heat sink. less hassle when its not all cold and hard.

you can remove it with alcohol, contact cleaner…. also arctic clean…same about processor,

I dont know... I tried it before when it was cold and the heat sink was hell to get off.

In the UK it is becoming increasingly difficult to buy isopryl as it is used in the manufacture of certain drugs.

It is behind the counter at pharmacies.

Be prepared to be asked why you want it.

One small bottle will last ages though. You would literally need a drop to clean one cpu backplate.




This is my favoured liquid whilst doing cleaning of any description.
