Computer locking up.

The beep comes from my speakers. So when it's turned off, i wouldn't even know.

Hmmm.. I'm now curious to know if it's your sound card! Try taking it out and running either with no sound or your onboard sound to see if the problem goes away. It could be some sort of strange driver/IRQ conflict.

i did think about the sound card using system resources but on his system i didnt think it would be a problem unless theres a conflict of some sort as erocker said its worth a try.

why don't you just use factory default drivers? that work work right?

I have to keep factory default settings. Meaning if i played F.e.a.r, i would have to reset. Play another game, reset again. ANd play back f.e.a.r, reset again. It's irritating. Also it isn't 100% working everytime.

Tried. No difference. It's only sometimes after a lockup, when i press the reset button, it SOMETIMES lets out a long beep through my speakers. Not everytime.

Sorry for the late reply guys. Anyway i'm currently using an X300 now. Testing it over the weekends. Also i've researched about long beeps sounds through speakers. It says that it's memory problem. I've scanned it through memtest86+ and found no errors ( did it on first page). Rams are also new (Received it at jan).

Any one can double confirm this?

It was an hour+. Rams are compatible. I'm using a Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2X2GB 800mhz ram.

Previous was 1X1GB 1066mhz.

Edit: Been using the x300 for awhile now. It probably is a problem with my 2900XT. Anyway I'm warrantying it tomorrow. Will update more if i get a lock up again.

Also i don't know how am i going to explain to them about the failure my 2900xt is having. It seems that whenever i wake up in the morning and start playing games, i dont get lock up at all. It only starts locking up at night for me when i on my computer the whole day. When i check the temperatures, it's the same (E.g as in morning and night). But lock up happens to frequent at night more. I also did memtest86 when i had the lock ups and GPU ram checks. Nothing's wrong.

hmm.... I've heard of many compatibility issues between crucial memory and GB mobos... this might be a coincidence though... Just say that it randomly crashes while playing 3D games

Can you check if it is stable when rinning Prime, orthos or OCCT on large FFT? Given that you can pass memtest, if it crashes on any of the three above, the problem is the NB. As you have already noted temp issues, I'd then suggest you try a different memory strap rather than upping the NB volts.

If there's an issue with my mobo and rams, swapping of graphics card wouldn't make any difference would it? So if i'm getting lock ups using my old x300 then the problem would lie with other parts?

Something's wrong with my computer. It started to happen 2 days ago. Whenever i open a 3D game, (E.g TES4 - Oblivion, Mirror's Edge, L4D) my computer locks up after a few minutes. I've checked everything. Fan on GPU is spinning, temperatures are running ok. Even after formatting my computer, lock up still occurs. Running the latest beta drivers for Windows 7.

I'm pretty sure it isn't the operating system that's giving me problems. Cause i had windows 7 on for a long time, been playing many games. Works perfectly fine until 2 days ago

It's a hardware lock up i'm pretty sure because i can't alt+tab at all. Even though my logitech G15 lcd is still cycling through the different menus, when i change it, it too hangs. Even after a fresh format, it still locks up.

Hardware as follow on my System Specs.

Any idea's?

(Update: Screen goes black for background music continues to play. Also when i hit alt+tab, everything hangs)

(Update: My Game Oblivion started to crash in a minute after a change in Option "Texture Size: High".)

(Update: Seems like even in windows XP, i'm getting random lock ups even in MMORPG games.

I had this problem when I overclocked my PCI-E too far. I also get this problem even now when I try to play music and a video game at the same time.

A friend once had similar problems, he bought a 2:nd hand system, the guy before him had played with the BIOS and changed things. I just reseted the BIOS and all went well from that point on..

I've not adjusted any PCI-E frequency. It's always at default which is 100. Also, even in non-overclocked settings, my computer locks up.

Well even when i default the bios settings, i'm still having lock ups. Right now using the x300 have not given me any problems. Thus i've pinpointed my 2900XT, the root of all problems. RMA'ing it later on.

I went to RMA my graphics card. The people there tested it and said it's okay. They however direct the defect to my motherboard, probably the PCI-E. Now what should i do? Cause my gpu didn't lock up on them during the tests.

had sorta the same problem with my old m2n sli deluxe, when i changed some memory options in bios to manual even at stock speeds i got lock ups or bsod, i purchased another kit of ozc 2gb kit of ram figuring that might be the problem, still no dice, tried swapping cpus, different hard drives, psu's, ran memtest x86 no errors, etc still got the same result, so i ended up rma the board, i have to wait and see if that was that problem

The angle I have been taking in my prevous posts is that you seem to crash when there are high levels of data being exchanged between the GPU mem and the mobo mem. Have a look at your motherboard architecture, it certainly could be pci-E or RAM or NB. So...run a large fft bench and see if it works. This does almost the same thing but does not stress the PCI-E, allowing you to narrow down the area of concern.
