Computer not showing desktop or start icon?

My computer is not showing the desktop icons or the start menu bar... everytime I want to open something i have to use the windows task manager. anyone know why this happens? also when i want to open My Computer properties or something it says I'm missing the RUNDLL32.EXE

Try putting your windows disc in and reboot...Then do a windows repair!!
Should fix any problems your having!!

Hit Ctrl, ALt, Del...click file, New task...type explorer.exe...see if that brings it all back up.

I don't have my windows cd anymore....any other way i can get it without that?
it said explorer.exe was not found

That is the problem then...somehow you have deleted Explorer.exe. (it is the core component for the windows OS. Unfortunately I think your only solution is a new copy of windows. :(

You need to do a reinstall of your O/S. There is no other way around it.

Oh that sucks...thanks for all the help anyways i appreciate it... i read on another site that someone gave a copy to the other person who was missing it in a rar file

Your operating system is most likely littered with viruses and trojans, hence the missing files. Don't bother, find your disk and redo it. You could contact Microsoft to see if they can give you the files. We cannot.

Try running "sfc /scannow" in a command window and see if it fixes it.

Download Windows 7 and get a key, use it, while you call Microsoft and give them your info and ask'em for a copy. Probably have to pay shipping.

Or join MS technet and you won't have to worry about losing the cd or keys.:)

Agreed. This is a critical issue. Like someone said d/l a copy of Win7 if you don't want to purchase. Personally, I would recommend purchasing a copy if you do not have a valid copy.

yeah its the latest operating system by Microsoft. its currently in release candidate, but its available for free until june/july 2010 i think
