configuring a router

I have a D-link Dir 300 router.
I used to have a non wireless modem.(type I adsl)
I now have a type II wireless adsl modem
It's a real pos and the wireless connection keeps getting disconnected.
Now I want to use the router for the wireless part.


The dns has to be set manually cause I had to disable dns server to put a manual dns.

Need some more information. What im getting is you want it to be just a wireless access point? Or does it need to route as well? DNS can be set to the opendns servers(208.67.222.222 or/and 208.67.220.220) or one that your ISP provides.

192.168.0.1 gets you into your router...then set up a WEP security..That will be located under wireless...Also set up a router password.....the user name to the router is admin and there shouldn't be a password on it yet...If there is use the pin hole reset. Good luck !
A good password that is easy to remember is your cell phone number with area code..Easy to remember and fits the 64bit incyption.

Modem automatically connects to the internet. The router just needs to provide wireless connection.

as long as the modem does dhcp, and lets multiple machines connect to it you can just have the router doing wireless. Connect the router to the modem via one of its switch ports(not the WAN port). Enable the wireless on the router, and uncheck DHCP server on the router. And hopefully dhcp addresses will forward over the wireless; im not 100% sure they will.
