Confused

I have decided to overclock my i5 2500k in order to try and get better framerates in games. Followed a few guides from the good old trusty internet which were specifically tailored for my motherboard (MSI P67 GD65).
CPU-Z and afterburner show cpu speed as 3.3 (default) but the integrated performance monitor in windows 10 DOES show my cpu boosting to 4.5 (overclock confirmed I guess?)
Can anyone recommend some programs to test/monitor the overclock?

AIDA64 - stability test
prime95
cinebench
OCCT

none of them should downclock your cores if the OC is done right

Can I still keep the power saving options on with the overclock ? Seems to be stuck at 4.5Ghz now regardless of load.

Yes you can....however I will not recommended you to do that at least in the first testing phase and when you see if everything working stable and "better" then before then you can try to turn on power saving options in your bios....GL

Leave everything else at default, or if you want to make sure you're super-ultra-mega stable right click Start and check Xtreme Stress Mode(then run it). If it'll pass that you're good to go.

EDIT: Forgot RealTemp T|I to watch your temps (better than 3.70)

Enabling C states and speedstep will allow power saving. Using offset mode for voltage rather than fixed voltage will allow the CPU to downclock at idle so that it uses less power. If you are using a fixed voltage value to set your overclock, that is why the CPU is pegged at a fixed 4.5 GHz.

I'd recommend just setting it to around 4.2 GHz and leaving it there, you're not going to see much of a difference in game performance beyond that.

Do NOT trust Windows monitoring because it is grossly inaccurate. My Ivy Bridge ran at 5.2 Ghz according to Windows 10... in idle

Bonus points for the fact this app also shows you vCore, and a massive range of other stuff, individual core frequency etc.

CPUID Hardware Monitor, possibly Open Hardware Monitor too

Open Hardware Monitor is my personal fav currently. HWinfo is also a very good one.

Ok..played some dota 2 and it seems the cpu does NOT go up to 4.5. I am stumped. Ideas?
