What's your budget? What part of the world do you live in?
The WD Blue SN550 is a good budget option.
Something like an Adata XPG 8200 Pro would be a good overall option that's not crazy expensive.

Of course, "slow" is a relative term. While the fastest m.2 SSD may be faster than a basic SATA SSD, even the slowest SATA SSD will run circles around the fastest hard drives.

Assuming we are talking about the system in your System Specs, you already have SSDs. While drive performance certainly is important, once the data is loaded in to RAM, the drive is no longer a factor. My point is, if you are looking to "noticeably" improve performance on that computer, not sure upgrading to a m.2 will provide it beyond what you see on paper (benchmarks) and via the placebo effect (wishful thinking).

you really don't need a NVME Drive at all. (except you're working with giant files and do not have 2 minutes extra to transfer them)

boot speeds, program launches and other stuff like that is barely any faster than a normal TLC SATA SSD that can cost much less.

Love people posting suggestions without even looking at the OPs spec or knowing the reason why he's asking.
The OP had another thread where he was having issues with his QLC drive, hence why he wants something he won't be having issues with.

Love people posting suggestions without even looking at the OPs spec or knowing the reason why he's asking.

So we are supposed to be mind readers?

Since so many have more than one computer, or may be asking for a friend, the onus is, first and foremost, on the OP to identify the system in question so we don't have to assume we are talking about the system listed in System Specs. And OPs need to define their problem and/or frame their question to avoid assumptions too. Of course, defining problems is like knowing what words to enter in a search engine - it takes some skill and practice to get the results one is looking for. So expecting OPs to include everything in their opening posts is not realistic either.

As far as having another thread, it is not up to the helpers to go back and read an OPs previous posts and threads. In fact, if the problem is related, the same thread should have been used, or there should be a link back the related thread so readers could get the necessary background information.

I recently bought a 250GB NVMe SSD (KINGSTON SA2000M8250G ) and I really loved it, as WarTherapy1195 said there is really no difference in performance when compared to your other Sata SSDs, but there are little things that happens sometimes and you kind of notices the enormous difference and disk writing speeds (i.e when installing programs like Adobe Photoshop).
What I learned from some of my mistakes and bad purchases is, if the m.2 ssd you're looking for is not gonna cost much more than the usual Sata SSD, then you should go for it, paying additional 15$ to 20$ is kind of my price limit and I find it absolutely worthy. (be aware that the prices are astonishingly high when you start to search for 500Gb+ of storage)

love my WD blue sata 3 SSD , compared to using my old 7200rpm drives for yrs until a few weeks ago, im perfectly happy with a normal SSD, no intention of buying an NVME drive for the forseeable future.
tbh im still blown away with the speed over a mechanical HDD :D

I think we should ask the OP about his needs first. NVME drives are fine and dandy but not everyone will truly benefit from those huge transfer rates. 1 and 2 TB models are quite decently priced these days, but there are cheaper solutions to be had for similar gains.
@RodClutcher
What do you use your PC for? What are your storage space requirements? What kind of improvement are you expecting from the new drive?

if you can't SEE the difference between NVME and SATA, it doesn't mean others can't see it also. Don't tell 'average Joe' stereotypes that SSD is needed only for OS and NVME is needed only for high-end freaks. OP's CPU is Ryzen 5 3600, which could show better boot&app loading speeds using NVME ssd than SATA. I've owned this processor and used it on both 860 EVO SATA ssd and 970 Evo NVME ssd, there IS a difference. Not night and day, but sata feels sluggish on good systems, and as I said before, R5 3600 can show you difference.

ssd's are fine, you dont really notice any difference. Maybe at boot and load times by a second.
old MX300 and piece of sh*t QVO. I can't see any good ssd here, lol

if you are ok with it, use it. not everyone could tell the difference, however, there is. it's like using internet speed 100 and 50 MBPS. both are good, but 100 is noticeably faster than 50. ;)

mainly im sick of waiting for file transfers and hitching when opening tasks. im looking to get ride of both my current ssds and going something better

this QLC drive is total trash. my boot drive is probably also trash but i guess that works ok but when i see 90% or 100% load on any drive my system stop responding and becomes unusable. faster drives would help stop that ???

but yeah ive probably asked my question wrong

here is two photos. what connector is accepted by my motherboard. that's what im confused on.

i have given up on trying to find the answer on google so had to come ask yous

Both.
Your motherboard supports NVMe and SATA type drives of that design.
Top slot nearest the CPU should be NVMe.

I personally got Adata SX8200 Pro 1 TB.
It even has slim metal sticker “heatsink” inside the box to put on, which HELPS temps. Compared to my previous 970 Evo, Adata is no slower, but cooler! (970 Evo was 256 Gb, alive and happy but booting another PC now :) ) I selected this SSD not by fanciness, but with help of “SSD Tier list” (linus te* tips). Google it, and it can help you to find your perfect ssd for you money&requirements.

Your SSD is a Samsung QVO 860, correct? That seems to be one of the worst reviewed SSD around.

When you say that your "system stop responding and becomes unusable", is that temporary or permanent? Dunno what's going on there, could be an issue with the SSD or something but if it isn't, a faster drive won't prevent that. Without seeing your system myself, all I can guess is if not the SSD, then something else is bottlenecking your system. Try updating the firmware of your SSD & your mobo's chipset.

If that didn't help and/or you give up, then just get a better reviewed SSD that you can afford.

SN550 is Budget device.
8200 Pro is High-end ssd.
Don't compare apples to pears.
And your reading comprehension is truly poor.
The 8200 Pro is hardly high-end any more and it carries a mid-range price tag now, that's why I suggested it and clearly others here agree.
I specifically said the SN550 was a good budget options, yet you call me out for it, wtf?! :kookoo:
It also wasn't a comparison, it was two suggestions to the OP.

Both will work on your mobo, but from the manual that I found online your second M.2 slot does not support SATA m.2, only NVMe.
WhatsApp Image 2020-12-02 at 7.09.14 AM.jpeg

IMO SATA m.2 drives are simply not worth it, I would just go for a normal SATA SSD instead. What you need to be aware is the interface of connection (Sata, or NVMe with utilizes PCIe slots) the drive you want to buy has, from what I know this type of connection:

is more common between SATA SSDs (it's called B and M key connector I think,it means that you can use it both on M and B sockets).

but you should really be listening to what TheLostSwede has been saying. I dont know a lot about prices in the US since i live in Brazil so I'm not the best for budget advice.

Both will work on your mobo, but from the manual that I found online your second M.2 slot does not support SATA m.2, only NVMe.

I dont know a lot about prices in the US since i live in Brazil so I'm not the best for budget advice.
ok thanks that covers what i needed to know

You're reading that wrong.
As I already mentioned, the primary slot is NVMe, the M2_2 slot is SATA.

Hi,
Don't believe m.2's in general are worth it
Simple 2.5" ssd are a deal per gb and frankly speed difference not many would be able to tell plus 2.5" ssd's don't run as hot.

If it’s sata m2, then it’s just clutterless installation. If it’s nvme, then speed difference is huge.

Hi,
Only a benchmark like performance test 9-10 would care
Or as already said moving large files around otherwise majority of benchmarks and normal task could care a less if it were a good 2.5" or m.2 ssd only difference is cost per gb.

Being mad about getting a QVO doesn't mean 860 pro or 860 evo are the same they are good value ssd that perform well.
