Connect IDE hdd to USB using a device..?

All i need is a device that lets me connect my old IDE hdd to my pc, because i want to retrieve/transfer files from those old hdd. I've seen some of these devices here and there, but will they work properly and which devices would you recommend for this purpose? Im currently using Windows 7.

I use a vantec device at work, been working great. Though to be honest all IDE converters seem to give you trouble once in awhile.

can you link me to such vantec device perhaps? yeah, i believe you on that, but im only going to use them for extracting files and that's about it. or what sort of problems are you referring to they make? :eek:

The IDE 3.5" enclosure I took apart and use as a converter has never given me an issue. I even used an ancient 8GB IDE HDD in it once.

I just have been through like 5 of them but they were cheap, I mostly suffer from detection issues. The other guys seem to have linked some decent adapters.

They make IDE adapters that change over to sata(generally using moles or sata power, & ide to usb.

So you want to connect a IDE based HDD to USB like a HDD USB? Not possible due to IDE uses more Power as it uses a Molex Connector. I mean you could BUY a IDE to USB but powering the HDD you still need a Molex Connector as there's no USB to Molex that I can find

I know about those. Just 3.5 devices need more power then two USB ports. 2.5 HDDs work fine with just one
