they share the same frame but the Carcharias is Stereo and the Megalodon has multiple drivers in a 5.1 configuration with simulated 7.1. it was slated for release in Q1 2009 it's almost Q3 2009.

Just wanted to let people know that if they want the features of Razer headphones, seek the cheaper and more durable brand.

Ahh..to me it just looked like a comparo with no other explanation, but that definately makes sense to keep getting that out there for those that don't konw, it's just too bad that Razer bugged up on those headsets, my buddy is looking forward to their next 5.1+ headset in the hopes it'll be total awesomeness. though the poor guy needs to replace his 4 year old logitechs...one earcup is dead, the mic gets worse every time he uses it, they've been very abused though, so he's earned what they're giving him lol!

Razer's next 5.1... give them at least a year. Their Megalodon is a virtual surround sound headset with technology bought directly from the military.

Military technology get out of here what oBaMa48 doesn't want to release his award winning strategy to Halo 3 to the public.

well I found this. http://twitter.com/CultOfRazer/status/1518672607 I say end of July tops. you might want to hold off for these $149 isn't too bad a lot more justifiable than the G35.

That unboxing video is pretty sweet, those Megalodon's look very well built. I might wait out as long as I can to see what the reviews and end-user opinions are though. I'm actually suprised noone's come in and talked about grado's, sennheiser's, higher-end jvc cans, etc. I want good sound for gaming/music/movies that at least matches my HPA2's if not suprasses it, I bet those new Razers will do the trick, I'm not sure the Cyber Snipa's can beat it, but it seems they can match it, the G35's just don't seem worth it, maybe at a lower price-point, and then I'm still on the rocks of the sennheiser stuff...back to google for me, I'll check back here a bit later. Thanks Kantastic and BumbleBee, definately some good stuff for me and other viewers to enjoy and learn from the gaming headset arena for sure, I KNOW there are more users out there that use headsets and headphones for these uses, so voice your opinion! Keep em' coming! And a few more sweet vids doesn't hurt either! :D

well the reviews on the Carcharias say the headset is very comfortable, braided cable, good microphone frequency response, quality highs, decent medium, bass is mediocre however none of this really matters. nobody has said anything bad about build quality. it does look a little cheaper in quality compared to my Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1 but so do most Sennheisers. i'm interested in the Megalodon.

Yes but to me, these PC-350's look very well built, but at almost twice the price of the Cyber Snipa's...has me quesitoning their true value...

That's what I hear, and part of why I'd like to try a set out...unfortunately nowhere in town has the PC-350's or HD280 Pro's displayed. Another set of headphones I'm looking at is the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80, like the HD280's I'd need a seperate mic...and from what I'm reading many can't quite compare to a lot of modern headset mic's or if they do, they take up too much realestate to be worth it. The clip on mic's seem so-so, I definately want good noise cancelling and clarity, the PC-350 has that kind of mic, my TB's are pretty good, they use a foam cover for passive, and it generally does a good job.

But at the same time I have trouble wanting to fork out $150 for a set of PC-350's...if they were closer to $100 I might be a tad more serious, though with a quick mod I hear the bass catches up with the rest of the sound output, and overall that headset is one of the best gaming headsets in that price-range...pretty impressive from what I've read. I'm still researching, but I'm having a tough time finding comparisons against my TB HPA2's. I have a good list of recommendations and future products that could be worth the wait, so I'm not sure what I wanna do atm.

Yeah I've seen that and a few others on the youtube...they are very promising. I really want to get them, I just have a tough time wanting to pay that much for them tbh. When they were $250 I just laughed and got my 2nd TB HPA2's, gave my original set to a buddy. Even though they're a 150Ohm headset, there's not much saying that adding an amp is necessary to enjoy these, but having a decent sound card definately helps.

They look great and very comfortable, I've read about as many reviews as I could find on them...I can find them for a shade under $150 shipped...which I realise is a decent price for them...at the same time, that's a lotta money to spend. I'll admit I'm no audiophile, but I like to have good sounding music the way I want to hear it...sometimes I want bass, sometimes I don't, I listen to primarily rock/heavy rock/metal, stuff like Pantera, Slayer, Soil, Metallica, NiN, Drowning Pool, Disturbed, etc...gotta have my dose of rock! :rockout:

I'm pretty well set on these...but again I'm not 100% confident that they're "the ones" yet. Thanks again folks! And BumbleBee, I gotta say it's nice having someone like you around these forums, you've definately accomplished a lot of good since you joined a few months ago, when it comes to stuff like this, I generally prefer to hear before I buy...that's why I got the TB's in the first place and regretted getting my old LTB 5.1 headset.

one thing I do like is the microphone response at 10hz. if I was in your shoes I wouldn't purchase it because i'm not 100% sure on it not at $149 USD what i'm not sure on is the vinyl cup and bass some people say it's good some people say it's tinny and has poor reproduction.

bass makes a big difference the Sennheiser HD201 has clear bass and the Sennheiser HD202 has muddy bass which makes the Sennheiser HD202 a bad choice for gaming. think about a grenade you want to hear it and feel it but you don't want it to overwhelm you specially when you don't have much control over it like a 5.1 Headset.

I also don't think you should be comparing a 5.1 Headset to a Stereo Headset or Headphones, apples and oranges. you have to decide do you want 5.1 or Stereo.

Yeah I do agree, that's why I'm not 100% sure...but people were buying them up at $250 and many still praise them...part of what keeps pulling me back to them, but again like you say the bass is give or take it seems, but I hear they're extremely comfortable, but compared to my cloth cusioned open back TB's, hard saying.

As-far-as 5.1 or Stereo, if the stereo is an upgrade in overal quality with a decent sound stage for gaming, then I'll turn on some CMMS-3D and be content I'm sure, I am still impressed with my cheap $20 Plantronics and the CMMS-3D, I did a comparison not too long ago and was really impressed compared to the 5.1, I still knew where enemies were and where gunshots were coming from, so that's part of why it isn't as important to me. Sure it's emulation, but it was damn impressive to my ears. As-far-as recommendations it doesn't matter as much if the overall sound is improved from what I'm using, I'd be happy. I've researched headsets aplenty, and still plan on more research...I will find what suits my needs, though I keep going back to those Cyber Snipa's...I've read just a ton of good stuff about 'em. Definately good call there BumbleBee.

Well I've decided against the PC-350's, just not enough there to justify as a good replacement for what I want out of the headset overall, at least not justifiable to the price.

I've instead looked more into the JVC HA RX900 (or HA RX700) headphones, they perform like much more expensive headphones, have a solid soundstage for gaming, sound solid with music and movies and have a pretty attractive price (especially the 700's). Great well, now I have sound, but what about recording? Well I have a couple options...I could get the 900's + Zalman MC1 clip-on mic for around $75-80 shipped on Amazon...or I could utilize the mic off of my HPA2, it uses a standard 1/4" plug, and is straight wired thru the headset, it would cost about $18 shipped from Turtle Beach for that mic if she ever wanted a replacement tho...so intially it'd be free and she doesn't like to use online voice features...so odds are it'd stay that way. I could then mod the headphones with a 1/4" jack and route the wire along the primary wire. I do have a 1/4" 6ft cable somewhere I could use, solder and soldering iron.

I'm thinking of making my own headset from a better pair of headphones. It might not be as nice, and a project log may happen if I feel motivated enough and can keep the costs down...though one thing that will bug me is not in-line volume control...I usually set the X-Fi to 50%, music players to 100%, Games about 50%, etc. I prefer to have some sort of manual control...though I suppose I could adjust to using the buttons on my G15...not sure what I'll do there yet. I've grown accustomed to the amp unit of the HPA2 for so long I actually prefer it.

With that said, there are in-line volume controllers that I could purchase, most for fairly cheap, but I can't seem to find too much on them or which ones might be complete crap. So I'm working on that and seeing what's the best I can get in my budget. That or the possibility of some sort of inline amp/w volume control that doesn't just depend on battery power (i.e. can use usb power) would be cool, but odds are out of my price-range.

I have some options and I want to have something different this time around, make my own gaming headset...I'm really thinking of modding the 900's so they accept the HPA2 mic at the bottom of the LH can just like the HPA2's do, something I'm used to, the mic is good enough for me, the mid would be free, I have some cable I could use...or I could go "hardcore" and make a new cable setup for both the headphones and mic...probably not tho lol! Can't say why I want to go this way, just seems interesting and new, and possibly something I could truly enjoy. Plus it could be a very cool way of getting around being stuck with headsets...they're getitng better every year, but it seems true headphones are always better at the same price...for good reason, but some are just rediculous. My HPA2's are great, and to get better it seems the best answer is a better set of headphones, with the JVC 900's being around 45 bucks shipped...they're cheap and compare to headphones much more expensive, adding an integrated mic setup wouldn't be too hard hopefully...so it's probably a venture I will pursue. Thoughts?

Well, I'm awaiting to see how the Razer Megalodon's pan out review-wise. But for right now purchases, I'm definately considering the Cyber Snipa's that Bumblebee so strongly recommends, there must be a good damn reason, and nothing but good reviews back him up. I'm also still strongly considering just snagging a set of JVC HA RX900's, and possibly a zalman clip-on mic or just modding the lh ear cup with a 3.5mm port for my HPA2's boom mic. Beyond that, I'm still not sure what to do for in-line volume control on a set of headphones...I'd rather not use digital or the G15's buttons to do the trick...but rather something that can limit the volume in the line and not a part of software.

Thanks again for all those reading this, I may just snag the JVC's to mod and create a log for making my own gaming headset, but we'll see...I'm motivated to do it now, but that doesn't mean that I will be later on lol. But if I can figure a good and cheap way to add that option, I will definately consider it.

my apologies the Razer Megalodon is 2.0 Stereo like the Razer Carcharias but with 7.1 Emulation the difference being the 7.1 Emulation is non-Dolby Pro Logic II but rather the Military Technology Krakoff talked about. Razer just launched a new mini-site for it http://www2.razerzone.com/Megalodon/ and if you click on Gallery and look at the top of the Maelstrom Controller it says 2.0 and 7.1

i'm sure these will sound as good or better than the Logitech G35 but I am no longer interested. here is a list of 5.1 headsets that use multiple drivers.

Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1, Tritton Audio Xtreme Series (AXPro, AX51, AXPro PC), eDimensional AudioFX 5.1, Saitek Cyborg 5.1, Turtle Beach (Earforce X-52, HPA2), Psyko 5.1, Zalman 5.1, Zykon H-3 5.1, Speedlink Medeusa 5.1 and Razer Barracuda HP-1

the Tritton and Saitek have been known to have poor audio reproduction which is funny because they have the most drivers (6 vs 4) and I quoted a little while ago about how multiple drivers will give you the audio positioning but won't give you the quality audio reproduction a stereo headset or headphones will give you i'm guessing there is a standing principle the more drivers you have the worst the audio reproduction is? I guess I am pro 5.1 headset because I already have a 5.1 speaker setup so if I want to enjoy a single player title I can but when I am playing competitively I could careless about how the audio sounds as long as I get the positioning of gun fire, grenades, foot steps, splashes, etc that is truly what you are paying for.

Well here is a jump I decided to take, VERY budget-wise.

JVC HA-RX700 Stereo Headphones , $33 bucks shipped @ buy.com.
Adding Boom Mic to headphones to create headset - http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/dt...can-work-other-headphones-312405/#post4027549

2x1.5m cables + boom mic for approx $7.50 shipped. For a total of about $40 bucks shipped I should have something new to play with and didn't kill my entire budget so if I don't like them, I can get another set of HPA2's, possibly try out the Cyber Snipa 5.1's, but out of that list above, those two are really the only ones that truly interest me. The HPA2's (version 2 w/USB) have treated me just amazingly, from comfort to sound to a solid mic, solid performance for the money, mountains of bass if you want it, great amp/adjustability, etc. And the Cyber Snipa's have a lot of praise too, and only needing a single USB connection for EVERYTHING is pretty neat too.

My only problem with my choice is going to be adjusting to the lack of no in-line volume control...that will be interesting lol. I was thinking of picking up a budget headphone amp down the road that has volume control, like the FiiO E5 (around $23) or the PA2V2 for around $40-60. For now I'll try things out as-is and keep it cheap so I don't feel too bad if I'm truly dissapointed, keeping my stash of cash ready for a new set of HPA2's most likely.

Random Murderer grabbed a set of the Medusa's 5.1 and within a month tried to get rid of them.. I tried them to check them out also and it was very echoey...

For me personally if you want a all in one then The Razer, IMHO, is probably one of the best out there... I personally prefer a stand mic like Logitech and my Equations that have a ohm mod for 100 boost! lol...

Yeah that's what I heard about the Medusa's...I had similar experiences with the LTB Magnum 5.1 AC97 set too. Tossing on a set of HPA2's blew me away in comparison...not even fair considering I got the HPA2's for $20 less than the LTB's! My first set of HPA2's were the wall-plug powered type, they sounded good, ended up giving them to a friend in need and got the rev2. USB powered, and I expected the same sound or less tbh...what I got was more, more bass, more defenition in all ranges, I was very happy to say the least. And the in-line amp/level control/master volume control unit works very well...goes very loud lol. I'm hoping my JVC 700's will do a good job at matching them, or I'm getting another set of HPA2's, no contest.

Yeah they do, I was close to choosing between the HD280-pro's and the PC-350 gaming headset earlier in this thread, but came down to the fact that from what I read many sold/got rid of their PC280's after getting the JVC harx700's and the PC-350's have issues with bass...one of the best mic's but at $150, and not being as good for music threw me off...I need a decent all arounder like my HPA2's are. But I have heard a ton of good about Sennheiser throughout my research, but $33 for those JVC's was just too tempting if people are claiming that they prefer them over Sen HD280's, 555's, etc that all cost much, much more.

I still would like to just try the PC-350's...I really would, but not even at $100 shipped do I think they're completely worth it for my needs...if all I did was game on them, I'm sure I'd be set...but that's only a fraction (albiet large fraction) of what I do/listen to on my pc. Hopefully if we get a sound section up on TPU we can start sorting through stuff and getting a good knowlege base for topics like this one. I've learned a ton from others, but everyone's ears are different when it comes to sound and preferred sound. I'm hoping my route of making my own gaming headset from a decent set of headphones will hopefully work out well for me.

Dark reviewed them in 2006. they are not supposed to have any echo, maybe his sound card was stuck in ENV, should of RMA them. they have a newer version based off the Pro Gamer Edition called the NX Edition. Medusa have a very good reputation they have been used as a base of comparison.
