That's only under certain conditions. If it's been longer than a certain time, login it required, just like with Steam.

However, we're getting off-topic. Let's rope it in folks..
What,? I have had Steam auto login on boot for year's, then sit idle for weeks without ever signing out or me signing back in.
My pc is typically on for a few weeks at a time.

There are no free lunches. Many companies with big "give-a-aways" are ultimately looking to go public. Billions of $$$ are looked upon for usually just the (3) people who are running those companies. (CEO, CFO, COO) New "signup" people are always considered to be the product! These companies are very slick operators and who will do anything to be staying in the headlines to be part of the big league and being recognized. The more "sign-ups" they get the more the company is worth. Wall Street looks at any new "sign-ups" or followers as a existing customer or buyer. It used to be that companies gotten valued by the proven income and profits they actually produced over the years before being publically traded. Now its beautifully different. More like being in reverse. Except in reality you cannot cash-in millions of so-called members and they cannot be considered like cash in the bank. Or for that matter be adding real $$$ value to the company. Nowadays there are companies that have no more than 25-30-employees, then renting secondary office space and furniture and are estimated by Wall Street and Forbes to be worth between $2-4 billion. I myself would love to play that game.

Thats how Epic works unfortunately, without working internet connection you cannot play any games.
You can, you just need a drm free one and direct link to the exe rather than using the icon from the launcher.

Yeah, but are you online all the time? That's what I'm talking about. Several of my PC's are completely offline. They literally don't have access to the internet. So games have to be able to be transferred to and run offline permanently. As a general rule I buy games from GOG because they respect user rights, such as the right to play in an always offline state. Epic, Steam and others do not respect such rights.

I tried that. It kept asking for an online connection.

This game is a bit odd from my experience with EGS games. I own about 15 free games from EGS and none of them want me to go through the launcher but this game does. If I click on the desktop icon it asks me to sign in. If I click on the executable in the folder it doesn't ask me to sign in.

Also, as previously said, you don't have to be online to play games from EGS if you just click on the executable in the game folder. I tested it and the same thing applies with this game.

What a phenomenal game, glad to see it expanding to a whole new audience !

Do I care enough to give my personal data to yet another scummy corporation for a 20$ handout? Nah, pass. It's a 16 euro game on GOG and I already have an account filled with fake data there.
Every online account and every device that connects to the internet collects your data.

Lots of people reduce themselves like idiots trying hard to tarnish EGS to the dirt with there comments, forgetting that Steam started that way too, being very hated from the beginning, but as it continues to grow people started accepting it, and now its the top distributor of digital games.

Competition is good !!!

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
well, i stand corrected on Epic .... hell yeah! they redeemed themselves more than enough with the awesome free games program...

aside Horizon: Zero Dawn (that i paid with a hefty discount code from Epic ), Remnant From The Ashes and Werewolf: The Apocalypse-Earthblood (that i got physical box also with a huge promotion) all the other 75 games i have on the platform were free ones... :D (ok some in double as i have them on Steam or Bethesda launcher like Metro, Elite : Dangerous or Rage 2  )

and most of those games are the one, sadly, i skipped because their price did not drop with time (either retailer or etailer or on platform )

also collecting data? well i do not care ... are they interested in me or any other? i do not think so ... privacy? well if i had something to hide .... i would not use any online services

Strange, I have played many times with Epic games with and without internet connection and no complains at all. In fact the first time I used the Epic store I was horrified from all the talks everywhere so I blocked it with a Firewall and only allow it to install and update games.

But honestly, I only game a little, and currently on 2 games both are in Epic because the first one was free (Subnautica), and the second was cheaper (Subnautica Below Zero) and they even surprised me with another discount coupon making the game even cheaper. The other main games I play on Epic are the Unreal Tournament series.
