For those who have not seen, the first reviews of the new be quiet! silent Loop 2 has started to roll out, first up is Guru3D. While I know some in the USA are disappointed that we cannot have the RGB goodness of the Silent Loop 2, just remember we also have the Pure Loop available and are constantly working on new exciting solutions to not only keep your rig cool but as quiet as possible.

Question, would I be able to use the pushpin installation method of the SIlent Wings 3 on the front panel of the Pure Base 500DX? Concerned due to the way the panel is, long modular installation instead of just predetermined holes for fans. Fan might just fall down. Thinking of switching case fans. The Pure Wings are great but loud.

And they can't even get the name right, 3rd paragraph on the 1st page they call the company is quiet!

I was researching case fans last night for my next build and noted the 14cm equivalent of your 12cm fans were a lot louder in Db, when I assumed larger should be quieter, is there a reason for that?

I must say that I'm a big fan ( :slap: ) of the Silent Wings 3 120mm PWM's. They can run right down to 200rpm and so they're awesome as a low speed intake. I do hear them make a slight rattle on startup but it only gets annoying if they're constantly turning on/off at the fan stop threshold. Not too hard to dial it out with the fan profile.

Where did you find that? Every fan model I've seen the specs of (Pure Wings, Shadow Wings, Silent Wings) all show that the 140mm versions are around 1dBA quieter than the 120mm. The main difference is the ~33% lower RPM on the larger versions, but they do push more CFM:

Local PC shop may have put the wrong specs, I think it was the pure wings where it showed almost twice the Db rating. I checked and they show the pure wings 2 120 as 20.2Db and the 140 as 36.3Db.

I ended up ordering 2 of the be quiet! Shadow Wings 2 140mm PWM Fan - White, 900RPM max @ 14.9Db for case fans.
They should be totally inaudible at that rating.

Silent Loop 2 will not be available in the US, likely due to an Asetek patent and the refusal of paying them royalties.

Ok then, well at least I live in Europe....
Mostly it's the other way around..

Yeah 14.9dB is practically silent. The decibel scale is logarithmic so going up from around 15dB to 20dB is actually doubling (100% increase) the sound pressure, it's not just a 33% increase. My Silent Wings 3 fans are 30cm away from my left ear but I can't tell if they're spinning or not below 600rpm. And I'm very easily irritated by fan noise.

Can you let me know where you saw this claim? I would like to see if my team can help get this corrected, as your assumptions are correct and they should easily be much quieter unless you were comparing a standard speed model to a high-speed variant.

I wish more people understood how the dB measurement scales.

They use the specs from the beQuiet! site.
And RPM variance is 100 only between the two.

I think there may be some confusion here...

What you are comparing, you are looking at very different models of fans, as you can see here: PURE WINGS 2 silent Fans for your PC from be quiet!

There are many models in each fan series. We do the same with Silent Wings 3, and etc to offer a variety of features (Size, PWM/DC, speed, and noise profiles) possible.

I notice that the 140mm fan you showed was the "high-speed PWM" variant which has a higher maximum RPM capability and also a different noise profile. The 120mm you chose was a DC model (3-pin) standard speed (up to 1500RPM) more quiet-focused model.

In order to evenly compare high speed to high speed, you would want to compare the two similarly spec model between the two sizes, and see the maximum RPM of the 120mm "high-speed PWM" fan would now be 2000, and hence based upon the design would also reach the 36dB(A) range.

If you want the best potential for silence and great performance, the Silent Wings 3 will give you the best we can offer at this moment in time.

I know sometimes the fan comparison can be troublesome as swapping from a PWM to DC model along with being high-speed vs standard throws in far more variables than you were probably aware.

If there is a problem it is the way beQuiet! lists the specs and doesn't make it clear they are different designs.
Both show as PWM in the specs and the "high speed" 140 is only 100RPM faster than the 120.

Yes, they mislisted the data in regards to PWM, as they list the spec with PWM in what seems like ALL fans, which is why I linked you to the correct listing and specs for the fans.

I reached out to the global team that works with the Australian region to help correct the description.

The reason I caught this was I looked at the part number and noticed that one was a standard speed non-PWM model, while the other was a PWM high-speed model.
