Copy complete drive?

Is there a way I can copy my complete IDE drive (os and all) to my new sata without having to do a fresh install? I'd like to drop my IDE drives altogether now that I have 2 sata hdd, one being a 1tb other 250gb... I'm sure there are programs out there to help, so if anyone has used one before and had success, please let me know, thanks!

Acronis True Image. I think Seagate has a free version.

i use partition wizard home.

the only thing to do once its copied, is go into disk manager and set the drive/partition as active

i've had much higher success rates using it over acronis, acronis always seems to take way longer and screw up.

virtual clone drive is a virtual DVD/CD/BD drive... its not a disk cloner.

Seagate has maxtor maxblast that's what I use its built off of acronis

Acronis program free from WD site.... worked great from sata spin drive to SSD :toast:

Tell me Muss... What if you have a PHYSICAL HDD let's say SATA - and you want to reduce the existing partition (to fit) and clone it to an SSD, that is to say take a laptop and move the entire install & OS to an SSD, avoiding the reinstall & configuration of this persons absolutely everything.

I'm sure that part is easy - the trick is the Cluster size calibration / alignment - Will "partition wizard home" be able to deal with that?

Because it would be bloody fantastic if it could?

I use ocz sanitary erase in ide mode set in the bios to wipe the ssd in windows... I wait till the BSOD and....

After that the cluster/ alignment is correct and it copies perfect every single time....
