if AMD lowered prices more i would run to the shop and buy a X23800 and a cooler and overclock it a lot, too bad they cost 170€ here if they costed like 130 i would get one in a second

Man... take a peek @ the "ScienceMark 2.0" page!

Same w/ the SuperPi benchmark test done here as well!

Lol, I know YOU get pwned by tigger and his Pentium D 930

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?p=133580#post133580

You SURE about that? See that URL:

  • Alec§taar = 1440.60 (AMD Athlon 64x2 4800+/11x X 257mhz FSB/CPU@2827.1mhz & RAM@202/200mhz)
  • Tigger69 = 1431.51 (Pentium D930@4385mhz)
(Still, you can't "stay ontop" forever in this stuff... 6-9 months tops nowadays it seems!)

We ALL got dusted bad by Mike's system though... it batted off a 1640 or so! Most of us AMD folks clocked in @ around 1300-1430 at best, even after trying to push higher o/c's & such - one person turned 1540 or so, but that is it...

APK

P.S.=> Time to get back to "Far Away Eyes" by the Rolling Stones (tune cracks me up large, lol)... apk

Lol...like Tom Cruise...one day he's gonna be old and wrinkly

I'm going to quote a guy named Rick Emmett I saw in Utica N.Y. live a few years back (lead singer w/ a band called Triumph):

"As shall we all my friend"

When someone from the audience yelled "Ah, you're old!" - good comeback I felt!

Tom Cruise (he was born here my city in fact), & the Rolling Stones? They've both done GREAT THINGS in their time in their genre/art form...

* OLD <> BAD always... & by the way? By comparison to many here, I am probably "OLD"... oh well!

APK

P.S.=> Rolling Stones "Far Aways Eyes" lines that bust me up are:

"I had an arrangement, to meet a girl... & I was kinda late! I thought by the time I got there, she'd be off w/ the nearest truck driver she COULD FIND!" lol...

& also this line from the tune:

"I was driving home, early Sunday Morning thru Bakersfield, listening to Gospel Music on the colored radio station... & the preacher said 'You know, you ALWAYS GOT THE LORD BY YOUR SIDE!'... & I was so pleased to be informed of this? That I ran 20 red lights in HIS HONOR! Thank you Jesus (thank you Lord)"... apk

Anyway as said before a basic AM2 cpu and motherboard is about 300++ but a basic Core due cpu and motherboard is about 500++. I guess the other stuff cost the same. So does Core Due performance gain justify the extra cost here?

I spent exactly $356.97 ($199 CPU+$1.99 2day Fedex=$200.99+$153.99 Mobo +$1.99 2day Fedex=$356.97 total) for my C2D setup.

At this point in the game core 2 duo (in my opinion anyway) is well worth the extra money you'ld be paying for the mobo. A lot of AMD fans talk about what AMD is GOING to have with am2, but keep in mind your taking a gamble and assuming amd will have better chips then the conroe. Get the e6300, clock it up to 3ghz, and beat ANYTHING amd currently has :p

Both of those are nice prices. They are much better than I was expecting. I guess I didn't realize you could get any of the Core2 CPUs shipped yet though. TD says 7-10 days before they will ship? Am I missing something?

Damn

Now you guys have me thinking here.

With the lower power requirements of the Core2, I could squeeze by with my current power supply. My video card is ok for what I do. Disks are fine......cpu cooler is fine.........will my corsair VS 533 be ok and let me overclock the conroe at least some?

Edited......what am I talking about.....I just bought a 550J to get me by until I make this decision.

I ordered my retail E6300 from Zipzoomfly the day before the announcement was made by Intel. About an hour later they werent listed and when I checked again they were only available for pre-order and the price jumped $20.
