core 3 has permanent LOG

Hi guys,

New here so I have a question; as soon as I start Real Temp the core 3 has "HOLD"
that's even when the temp is low (and hasn't been high yet)

On a second note; my idle temp is around 40-50c and during a benchmark it touches 100c

What could be wrong?

Thanks in advance

So what would be 'normal' idle temps

I have a lot of air flow

What cooler? If it's stock check those pesky push-pins. It's obvious that something is horrible wrong with your cooler mount.
At a first glance that LOG shows us that your core was already in throttle during boot.

At default MHz when running a bench mark, you shouldn't be hitting 100C on any core. As burebista says, what cooler are you running?

I've seen maybe 1 or 2 CPUs with broken sensors that have the thermal log bit set for no apparent reason so usually if it is set, there's a reason for that. Definitely check the mounting of your heatsink first and if you decide to remove it and start again, remember to clean both sides and use some new thermal paste when installing it. The Core i7-920 needs all the help it can get when it comes to cooling.

step 1: get off of the computer, find another to talk to us on.
step 2: reseat the heatsink/fan, maybe apply(or reapply) thermal compound.

I can guarantee you if you continue to use your computer as is, you will damage your processor.

This is an easy fix.

nope :) intel has really good thermal protection.
