Hello
I had 10400 on asus h410 mb
With 2 sticks ram 2666mhz.
With rtx 3080
I play battlefield was getting around 115-140 fps on 4k.
I changed the mb to a asus prime z490-p
Everithing else stayed the same , my
Fps in battlefield droped by half and there is stutering, i dont understand what is wrong , i try setting in the bios
Enable performance mode, remove all limits.
I installed 3200mhz ram , enabled xmp
But it is one stick of 16gb.
I installed it in the correct slot.
How is it possible that changing mb
Will result in such bad performance?
And a high end one.
While cheap shitty one has much better performance?

the answer is the 1 stick of ram, even though its faster ram,
dual channel will be faster even though the rated speed is slower..

try putting back 2 of your old ram and see and take out the 1 faster ram

Puma99dk , thanks
I updated to the latest bios.
I have a bad performance with my 2
Sticks of hyperx predator wich are 2933mhz in dual channel.
And with one stick of 3200mhz 16gb
The performance is terrible even more.

the answer is the 1 stick of ram, even though its faster ram,
Nah! When he didn't change the RAM, the performance was still down.

Plus, dual channel never panned out to be the performance enhancer all the marketing hype suggested it would be. More RAM always trumps faster RAM. I would much rather have more, slower RAM in single channel than less faster RAM in dual channel.

That said, I am confused about what RAM is going where.

@Oren78 - First you said 2 x 2666MHz - but you didn't say what size those 2666MHz sticks were.
Then you said 1 x 16GB 3200MHz.
Then you said 2 x 2933MHz - but you didn't say what size those 2933HMz sticks were either.
Then we are back to 1 x 16GB 3200MHz again.

So we know it is 1 x 16GB @ 3200MHz. But what size are the 2 x 2666MHz and the 2 x 2933MHz sticks?

Sorry for not explaining well.
At first i installed 2 sticks 2x8 gb 2933mhz that were set to 2666mhz in bios due to chipset h410 doesnt support
2933mhz for i5.
Thats what i meant when write 2666mhz.
After that i installed 1 stick of 16gb 3200mhz.

You should not have to change the RAM speed in the BIOS. "IF" compatible, they should just toggle down to the fastest speed the board supports.

I don't feel that RAM frequency is the reason why you are not getting the most out of your hardware. Between 3200, 2933 or 2666, the performance should be around 5 to 10% max, assuming all running dual channel.

My question will be, what cooler are you using with your processor? If you are running stock cooler, it is highly likely that it will throttle and bringing performance down as the RTX 3080 requires more CPU processing power and run into CPU bottleneck quite fast at lower resolution. To give you an example, my wife's brother told me that his 9400F was running close to 90 degs C when he was playing CS Go. Ambient temp is in the 30s C. Swapping it with a Scythe Shuriken 3, temps went all the way down to around 65 degs C.

In addition, you should check if the motherboard's power stages are overheating. Asus' Prime series is actually their entry level series despite the the high end chipset. Again if the power stages are overheating, it may throttle performance. For a 10400, I think this is less likely, but still possible depending on how Asus implements cooling.

In summary, I feel the issue may be due to thermals, and less of RAM speed.

What cooler did you use? "everything stayed the same" may be an issue here, if you did something like not replace the thermal paste...

I can confirm that the cooler was not the issue, it is arctic freezer 34.
Temps were not passing 74 degrees.
And i reapplied thermal paste.
I did not see any high temps of vrm in hwmonitor as i can remember,
Any way i returned the board for a refund
And order a gigabyte one.
There is a problem with this model of asus, as asus released 10 bios updates
Indicates something faulty with this mb.
I even contacted asus and they told me
To return it to the store i bought it from.
