i have a brand new core i7 2600k with a sabertooth p67 with 8gb ddr3 1866. im having no problems overclocking the memory but the cpu is the issue. cpuz reports my cpu is always at 1.6ghz(goes up to 4.5ghz thanks to turbo boost). i disabled intel speedstep tech but it still reports 1.6ghz on idle, how do i have it to the defult speed for idle without it droping past 3.4ghz?

Speed step also has C states that need disabled as well. Honestly, I would let turbo/c states/speedstep all work. If it loads correctly at 4.5ghz what's the big loss?

wouldnt it be unhealthy to have the processor jump from low speeds to a high overclock speed?

not with SB processors.

With older generations it would have been a problem. but its fine as Intel have perfected turbo boost
