Corsair 550D fiasco

So i ordered a Corsair 550D the other day turns out due to the design of the case aka the rounded bevel for cable management it cannot fit CEB style motherboards examples: ASUS x79 WS, ASRock X79 Fatal1ty Champion and more.

So if you happen to have a high end board thats not strictly ATX I would or Micro ATX etc learn from my $120 mistake lol.

Depends on how far away you are from where you bought it. If going to NJ(newegg), it may be like $15....I shipped a 900D to erocker dirt cheap because of proximity, where it it was going to Cali, It would have been three times the cost.

yea just my luck its shipping from CA for me so opposite of the country hurray pretty much screw either sell new or cut the thing up. Ill probably just sell it, I wanted the Nanoxia cases anyway they just dont seem to want to bring them to the US market.

Still pretty sad that the only reason it wont fit is the rounded corner on the cable routing if they had kept with the boxy design and been straight edges it would have fit fine. Ah well live and learn. Still pretty sad I got to pay nearly double the price of the 550D to get what I want and will fit my motherboard.

Cause no one has the case I want because only one shipment was sent to the USA and nothing else has arrived since. Besdies why would someone trade a case to me unless they were a reviewer they probably bought the case they wanted lol.

No pics yet dave since the product hasnt shipped Newegg slapped a label on it but Fedex has yet to pick up the package. Regardless of this Neweggs policy is if theres a tracking number applied its to late to cancel. And if you use eggsaver shipping its not save to refuse the package and i get pay restocking fee anyway so one way or another Ill get shafted on this one. lol

I've cut so many things on cases now to get my parts to fit its second nature. Break out the dremel

Just get a flat surface, a towel, a rubber mallet and then hammer that sumbich flat.

Make slits in the formed corners with a cutting wheel, wide enough so the corners of the board fit through, when installed it won't show, it'll just look like your board has rounded corners. Just make sure the board can't touch metal top or bottom. If you cut the slits wide enough, you should be able to maneuver the board into place, and it should look like a custom fit instead of a hacksaw job.

Might want to consider the Antec P280. It's not listed that it supports CEB, but it does list XL-ATX (SR2) which is 343 mm by 254 mm. I measure up to 11.5 inches deep (to the edge of the cable routing grommets. 267mm = 10.51 inches. Worth a quick e-mail to Antec.

Using a Nanoxia Deep Silence 1, which while also not CEB compliant can be made compliant without cutting the case,

The rubber grommets for wiring keep the board from touching the metal of the case so a single strip of electrical tape down the raised section kept the rest of the board from touching the raised lip. So while the 550D required actually cutting out a section of the case, the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 can be made compatible with a single strip of electrical tape.

the deep silence cases are essentially Fractal Design cases but with alot of crazy awesome ideas.

Example if i want I could move the HDDs over so they are all stacked side by side thus leaving the top area open or I can move two sets of HDD cages over and it gives room for another 240mm radiator in the front as well as up top. Overall its a really versatile case. If they had one of these made from aluminum that was a bit more rugged overall with the plastics it would be the perfect mid sized chassis for most systems. Just fully loaded with water cooling and it being mostly steel its heavy. Heavier than my Define XL even. Still the top images dont show it but I have a bottom 140 intake and a rear 120 exhaust now. could fit a side panel fan but i prefer the silence which with the top Air chimney closed I can't hear the system over the sounds of nature.

Yes I know they are antiquated Alex but I do burn DVDs regularly for system restores of customers machines so... I can't really remove it. Thought about USB one but the sata drives are install and done, and if it isnt screwed into the case ppl in my home have a tendency to move it and lose it. So old school DVD drive will stay... for now.
