I recently bought a corsair dominator ram fan from newegg, under a open box name. I figured it was just a returned item and it was $2 cheaper than the retail. Well after reading reviews of it I ordered etc, and waited for it to arrive. Well it came in today but all that was there was the fanbox, no clips or screws for mounting to my ram slots.

I started a live chat session with newegg and they promptly told me its an open box item, what you have is what you get. So newegg sold me a set of 3 40mm fans with no way to use them for their intended purpose.

This is bullshit.

i would call them on the phone because as this states Open-Box Items

* Return for refund within: 15 days
* Return for replacement within: non-replaceable

This is our Detailed Open Box Item Return Policy. Newegg.com often sells items that are listed as "open-box." Because these items are sold at greatly reduced prices, they bear this limited 15-day refund-only return policy through Newegg.com. Such items can only be returned within 15 days of the applicable invoice date. Newegg.com cannot provide replacement service for these items, as their stock is limited. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of these items is with the buyer. These items have been tested for functionality, but may have superficial physical defects including (but not limited to) scratches, dings or dents. Should these items prove defective following their purchase, the buyer (not the manufacturer, distributor, or Newegg.com) assumes the entire cost of all necessary servicing or repairs, unless otherwise required by law. These items are not covered by any 30-day satisfaction guarantee.

If you purchase an Open-Box product you will receive an OEM BAREBONE item, meaning you will only receive the item itself. Accessories are NOT INCLUDED with Open-Box products, even if the missing accessory is required for the item to function properly.

These items have been tested for functionality,
well that means it has to work having a cooler with no way to use it don't really leave you with a functioning product explain to them that this is a core component of the product not an accessory like a screw or something

if all else fails just return it for refund and say the fans didnt work

well its in the tos and what not, the product is used, may be scratched etc. and its OEM, being you're only gonna get the cooler, and so the clips, being seperate from the cooler might not've been included and newegg had every right to do that with you lol. really sucks though, this is why you never buy oem mobos. you probably wont get the io shield plate

Well you must not have crucial chips then because my ram gets hot to the point of errors without active cooling. I've even burned my self on it.

If you would like to sell it directly to me I may just buy it. My unit has a dead fan and is going back to newegg. I'll send ya a pm.

What gets me is the Egg says you must return items with all of their contents. So what the heck happens to all the contents once they get it? Do they rape it and sell the parts off on Ebay or something? I bought a motherboard open boxed once from them. It had the original box and just the board, not even an IO shield. No plans to buy buy open box again. So I guess we can buy something from them, rape the package and just send back the core item for a refund? With what they resell, it seems this would be OK? Don't get me wrong, I still like the Egg, just not for open box.

I once bought an open-box mobo with no bios chip. simple fix was to buy a new one, take the chip, and return it. the next person to buy it should be fairly satisfied.

so open box is preety useful for the consumer. screw your bios chip, buy a new mobo, take the bios chip put in the old board, take the corrupted bios chip and put it in the new mobo and return it lol.

What part of:

If you purchase this Open box product you will receive an OEM BAREBONE, meaning it is just the item itself. Accessory items are NOT INCLUDED with Open box products. Accessories are shown in the pictures so that customers will know what is missing from the item.

Barebone means Newegg.com can only guarantee the item by itself, and no other accessories. No matter what the product description says, open box products may not have all the other accessories normally shipped with a new product. Newegg.com only guarantees that the barebone item itself will be included. Do not be upset or surprised if your open box product does not contain any cables, adaptors, manuals, CDs, drivers, fan, etc. Newegg.com will not send you any missing accessories, even if the accessory is essential to the product's operation.

While Newegg.com does not like to discourage sales, only the experienced PC enthusiast should purchase open box items and know how to deal with missing accessories. Only buy open box products if you are willing to resolve defects and/or know how to find missing accessories.

Didn't you understand? In fact they told you not to do exactly what you did.

Didn't you understand? In fact they told you not to do exactly what you did.

Accessories are things included with a part such as adapters, cables, etc. The term accessories means extras. Do you count a video cards heatsink to be an accessory? what about the pci bracket? Those are accessories if what you say is the given definition. Hell what if you bought a motherboard and it had no retention bracket, or audio card? What if you bought a case with the door missing or a hole in the side where the plexi should be.

I have purchased open box video cards and motherboards before, they just don't come with all of the extras such as manual, backplate, etc. Video cards come wrapped in bubble wrap with only the things they require, no games, software discs, just the card and a couple cables necessary to the cards operation. I took this as a returned, opened unit, which may be scratched or dinged but otherwise works as intended. The bullshit newegg pulled is not what I purchased. The item was shown complete in pictures, no note on the page of missing hardware, otherwise in working condition. What I recieved was a broken unit, with no mounting hardware, and a misrepresented product.

I have bought a motherboard with I/O Plate and now Audio Card. My P5N32-E came like that, and I expected it to come like that because I bought an Open Box, so I knew I was getting the item and only the item.

I don't care how you took it, that isn't how it was sold. They gave you more than enough warning that you were buying the item only.

And there is a note on every page that the accessories shown don't come with the item. If it isn't permanently attached to the item, don't expect it to come with it. It really isn't a hard concept to understand.

In fact this is the exact item that you bought: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowI...lag=0&Depa=99&Description=CORSAIR+CMXAF1+Fans
