Corsair Vengeance LX 3600 and MSI z490

So this ram is supposed to be 3600. But highest it goes is 2666. If I try to adjust timings to what its supposed to be (18-19-19-38) it just fails.

Any suggestions?

And it's the same result when you set the XMP profile? When you set manually are you also adjusting voltage, it's likely that at 2666mhz it may only be using 1.2v.

Same thing if I set the XMP. It just flat out refuses.

I cant get it higher than 2666.

I am gonna try updating the bios if it needs it.




Didn't work. Still cant get it to 3600mhz

Under "DRAM frequency" which is on auto, what are the other options? Which MSI board is it, I have an MSI too

Yeah, its the MSI z490 Gaming plus.

Other options is max 2666. The "Try It" is all the way up to 5500 or whatever.

It's odd, what I have done with mine because I know I can tighten the ram timings I have set it as XMP, booted, then gone back into Bios and manually adjusted tighter timings but obviously you can't do that, the first thing I did though when I got the board was to update the Bios, I do think it's a Bios issue and if you are running on the release Bios there have already been 2 further releases for your board and both say "improved memory compatibility" so I am guessing that's your answer, I updated mine through Dragon centre I think, was very straightforward.

I updated my bios to latest. Still same issue.

The Xeon you're using seems limited to either 2666MHz or, at the best, 2933MHz.




I'm not so sure you will be able to push higher frequencies while using your choice of CPU, than those which you've already attained.

That is indeed may be the case. It's an engineering sample 10400/10500. I'll search further. Guess I should keep the modules till I get another cpu in near future.

On the MSI board I had XMP didn't work (AMD system) and Memory Try It wouldn't either, but changing DRAM Frequency from Auto to manual and putting in the specs worked.

Tried that. Still no go. When I set it to XMP it states in a message 2133 > 2666

So either the DRAM modules are not able to go beyond that (thus botched modules and I got till Oct 8 to send them back to Amazon) or it is the CPU.

What do you guys suggest? Should I send them back and hope to see if I can get another pair or some other modules?

If you have another CPU to test with, i'd try that, I think it's a limitation of the ES.

Would damaged pins cause the motherboard not to recognize the speed or would it just not recognize the ram at all? I know, amateur question. But never really felt with this issue before.

I checked up in HWinfo and it states that maximum supported DDR4 Frequency is 1333mhz. Which translates obviously to 2666. Yeah, so it wont go beyond that.
