Could this lost RAM contact tab be the route of all my problems?

I am having an ongoing problem with my desktop which can be read about HERE.

I bought a second hand motherboard as it was my assumption that it could be the problem. However, today when I was in the process of testing it I happened to look at one of my RAM sticks and saw what is in the photo below. I don't know if this is as a result of my old board or the secondhand board.

What I can tell you is, is that after discovering this I did get the computer started and Windows reactivated with the new(old) motherboard, outside of the case.
However, after putting it all back into the case it is now doing the same thing as in my linked to post.

How might this have happened to the RAM stick?

Is this the cause of all my woes?

More than likely it is, since the pad looks burned and the contact gold foil is touching the contact next to it also.

Replace it, check the RAM slot with a magnifying glass and try it again.

I would clean the RAM slots with Isopropyl Alcohol as well

This sounds like a voltage back feed from the psu on the case ground side, if it works outside the case, or a short between mobo and case.
Someone please correct me if wrong.

I have seen few psu's that was going bad and had a internal short that sent a low voltage back threw the ground. when it is all mounted in the case it brings it threw the screws to the case to the mobo ground screws

That pin, number 2 is the ground connection.

I would guess that the RAM is dead and shorted internally. Maybe it has been overvolted by a faulty mobo, or inserted the wrong way. Dave is also putting forward a good possibility.

i've seen this happen before, most often when someone tries to jam the ram stick into the slot backwards and doesnt notice right away. they swap it around the right way after an unsuccessful boot, and then have no idea whats wrong.

Does this also mean that by having the computer working outside of the case, regardless of RAM condition, I have now, supposadly, blown a second Mobo by mounting it in the case?

I have just taken the whole lot out of the case and it ain't working, again, i.e. as per the link to my original problem.

Just going back to a possible short with the PSU, I was able, to my mind, to eliminate the PSU as a suspect. Reason being is that I was able, through a process of elimination, to successfully use the PSU, GPU, HD in my friend's computer. Whereas, I was unable to test the Mobo, CPU and Ram due to different sockets and slots.
Would that guarantee me PSU function and bring it all back to just the Mobo, CPU and Ram?

look here is some solder on the contact area. i bet someone tried to solder the last one in.

if i were you (and you were as cookoo as me) i would cut some foil, sand a side, fix it there and solder.

I tried the 'good' stick in all slots.

My two RAM sticks are 1st hand. The burning was done in my possesion.
I'm already thinking of copper/brass foil, superglue and solder.

If it could be the motherboard or the power supply then I would not recommend using someones working ram to try and test it when you could potentially destroy theirs as well.

That contact is totally melted, sounds like PSU as commented or some short in the board (either the new or the old one), computer case or RAM module.

a bad ram pin especially a ground pin could very well damage the cpu's IMC
sounding like you need to consider binning the whole machine and start over

those slots are keyed a certain way to prevent that, if u manage to jamb it in there you damaged the slot n even the board considering the amt of force required to jamb the ram in

Reading your other thread I've got to know this: How in the world did you fit your DDR2 ram in to your friend's P55 board that uses only DDR3?

I think that is why the other stick doesn't work either if that is what you actually did.
