I just got the PiMax 4k, installed the PiPlay and played Project Cars a bit and I have a couple questions.
The headset it's a bit dim, I see there is an option to increase the Brightness under Settings in PiPlay but it doesn't affect the brightness on the headset.
Also how do I increase the resolution, the headset has 4k screen but the in game resolution it only goes to 1080p.
I have a theory that might be because I have a 1080p monitor and the headset is set to disconnected in display settings so that might be the reason why I can't go higher.
I might have to set the headset to primary and run the game that way and maybe I can go higher in resolution.
I don't know if that holds water or not, I have to test that.
If there is another way please let me know.
Also when I run Project cars 2 the SteamVR kicks in even if I run the game from PiPlay, so I don't know if that's why the settings i PiMax don't apply.
So do I need SteamVR or I can just run games out of PiPlay ?
This VR stuff is confusing to me to be honest.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I can't help as such but if your using the RX480 listed under your system spec try turning on VSR (virtual super resolution).

I just got a lenovo explorer and RX580 cheap and my main screen is only 1080p and the VR headset is 1440x1440 res so i am still trying to work it all out to :)

As for steam VR poping up i think thats just normal if your games are linked and installed under your steam account.

Hi @r9 hope your well :)

So after talking to my mate about a few things he said your Pimax might run as a native steam VR headset and that would kind of explain why steam VR pops up.

As for the res of the VR headset itself, i think most VR games just auto set the res based on hardware used and as for the 1080p limit i believe that is just for mirroring to our main screen.

Hope that makes sense and helps a bit :)

I also just tried Project cars 2 on my lenovo and while i don't have issues with brightness it did seem a bit blury but i have the game maxed out to play without vr so maybe i need to tweak some settings. My lenovo explorer is based on windows mixed reality so most of my games popup with the windows reality stuff then steam VR lol can be a right pain in the backside lol.

Nah don't say that i don't think you cheaped out at all it just takes some time to get it all setup right and to be honest from what i have seen on youtube many people rate the PiMax as more than good enough.

Also bare in mind your PiMax has 4k screens and i am not sure what FPS they run at but for optimal VR they say 90fps per eye/screen and we need the hardware to push it that high.
