wazzup
so, im trying to figure out which cpu coolers will fit on my motherboard
i would like to use a prolimatech megahelam, but i dont think it will fit
i think a thermalright ultra 120 will, but not positive about that either
i saw on the msi forums that a guy who had a similiar mb fit a thermalright ultima 90, but im looking for something bigger
any input you guys have your be awesome!
also, how would you guys mount the cooler? any cooler i get would have to be mounted with either the fan blowing up toward my psu or down toward my vc, which would be better?

this is a pic of my mb

any input you guys have your be awesome!

I had the P7N SLI Platinum (same layout except 1 less PCI-E), the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 fits (although it is difficult attaching the fan with the big northbridge cooler), as does the Thermaltake Big Typhoon. I would recommend either the S1283, the Xigmatek Dark Knight, or the OCZ Vendetta 2

Those tower coolers have plenty of clearance.
Just check dimensions don't foul your first ram slot.

If you have a top mounted exhaust I would orient the fan towards that.

Won't fit, the NB cooler gets in the way

Another Corsair h50 recommendation.

Performs slightly better then true 120 ex and has no clearance issues.

Yeah actually there is one that looks nearly precisely like it, the h50 has corsair branding and some slight alterations though.

Infact if you bought the H50 the other companies branding is on the bit that mounts to the CPU.

There is also the Cool-it sytems Domino A.L.C and their other all in one coolers.

I've got an ALC which I've modded to be much more like a H50, it performs very nicely.

I've no over clocking chips at the moment but I'm running at 3.2 with 1.285 volts and my idle temps are 24c and load temps are 38.

I'm using the stock fan in push exhaust configuration.

I had fitted an Akasa EVO 120 and currently fitted a Scythe Ninja.

The Akasa Evo 120 I had to rotate it from its native position 90 degrees clockwise. Here's a link to it's rebadged brother.

With that being said, you will be fine with close to 95% of coolers on the market. Oh also, look into 92MM fan-based coolers as they will fit with ease. Maybe the new AC Freezer 7 rev 2.

Or maybe even the CM TX3

The H50 keeps up with the best air coolers : ]

Switch the fan around so it blows through the rad and its a monster.

put two fans on it and it beats all but the biggest most expensive air coolers.

Cheaper then the most expensive air coolers though.

4ghz would be reasonably easy with the Xigmatek HDT-S1283, Dark Knight, OCZ Vendetta, or H50. Wolfdale CPUs just don't run that hot

That's true actually never even looked at his system specs.

OCZ vendetta 2 and Xig 1283 can be had for very very cheap as well.

The pull fan can be any old shite to be honest, so pick a quiet fan that's at least 50cfm.

If you want to upgrade the stock fan then you want as high as cfm as you can get with a noise level you can tolerate.

I don't like to go over 30 DB noise levels.

Oh and Nailezs, if you do go Coorsair H50, bestBuy has em on sale currently for $59. The Scythe you linked earlier is a tight fit on the lower left corner mounting location. It does fit just need to work your magic to push the pin to lock it into place.

which do you think would perform better, the h50 or the scythe i linked?

im thinkin the h50, as i think i saw a review on newegg where a guy had a i7 965 oc'ed to 5.25ghz and he was below 60C

as for the scythe, saw a reviewed who had a e8400 to 4.1 an he was only gettin 48c at full load i think

Go for the H50, it should perform better than the Scyte Mugen 2, and it's a lot smaller

i just read a review on bestbuys website on the h50 that gave me some concern - my case has 7 80mm fans, no 120mm fans. so, where would i mount the 120mm rad for the h50?

i've got 2 free cdr-om slotss(and can free up a third with some creative cable management), think i owuld mount it in the empy cdrom slots some how?

Maybe a new case as well? The Antec 300 and Cooler Master Centurion 590 are popular cheap cases :toast:

Yeah sell that case and get a cheap one with plenty of 120mm fan areas.

Casecom do a REAL nice one, gime a sec I'll find you a link to it on a UK site, then you can search for it where ever your cased.

and i want some 120mm fans :)
im pokin around on newegg for a case that i like that will fit what i need...pickins are slim lol

I had the Cooler Master RC-690, it was a good case. It has good cable management, it looks good, it was reasonably quiet, it has pretty good airflow, and is sturdy. However, if I was doing it again, I would buy the Centurion 590, it has better airflow and less plastic parts ;)

im incredibly picky. for a new case i would want it to be full tower, have awesome air flow, and have a locking door.
gotta have space for atleast 4 hdds and 4 cd-roms, and atleast 1 floppy spot
i would like to try to find a case that has 2 exhaust 120mm fans on the back, thats what im havin toruble with
and enough intake fans to maintain positive pressure
