Hi.
I been looking at the afterburner and GPU measurements and noticed something with my CPU temps.
Normally I was using speedfan to measure CPU temp. I have noticed that my temps jump so much when i use the core temp but the CPU temp isn't high. I started to be concern since afterburner showed different CPU temp than speedfan but when i actually added core temps in speedfan they went up . Also have downloaded real temp to see the difference. What is my actual CPU temp and should i be concerned?
Which one is the proper one to get the real temp readings and if the high is correct, should i be worried? Maybe there's something wrong? Recently i have replaced thermal paste with Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut.

Idle state
IDLE.jpg

Stressing with the Furmark CPU burner
The problem is, core temps go up within 10 seconds to over 80c but the CPU indicates 41c.

Thanks for all the help

The problem is there is no industry standard for labeling, sensor types, sensor locations, or just about anything else so we really don't know where the sensor is located for that CPU value. It likely is the CPU's outer case. I note the core temps match up real well.

You might get a 3rd opinion and check out HWiNFO64, I have found it to be very accurate.

Just forget Speed fan and its CPU temp, Real temp is fine and yes your a little high 83c. Not at the danger point yet but you want it a little lower. You probably need to move more air but what cooler?

Well during games it doesn't exceeds 70c. The CPU cooler like my system specs states its a box one. Perhaps i should switch it to something greater.

Your coretemp results are pretty on point considering the use of a stock Intel cooler.

In all honesty, you don't need to "worry" until the OK under each core changes to LOG, which means the core/cores get so hot that it throttles.

yeah box = stock. My case is open i didn't close it. Long story and it is clean since I clean it once in a while when i see it has some dust or other crap in there. The high temps occur only when stressing cpu. in games it never hits 70. I will consider changing it to something else i guess. I use those apps for temp you specified just i didn't realize that core temps may vary from CPU temp that much. I hope it is not a bad thermal paste or cooler is not on the place. Such a difference between CPU and cores is in my opinion a bit to high. Any coolers that you guys would recommend? Been thinking about Noctua NH-D14 or D15

thanks

the noctua d15 is considered on of the best. but if you aren't heavily overclocking it its way overkill/expensive. its also massive. so make sure your ram is low profile or there might be a problem.

something as simple as the coolermaster 212 or arctic freezer extreme are much less expensive and still worlds better than the stock fan.

Well where i live noctua is around 70 bucks so its not that expensive besides that price is the first one i got. I'd bet if i look around it would be cheaper. If buying a cooler maybe put some more $ and get something better. I can still OC after i get a D15

if you can get the nh-d15 for $70 then you might want to buy a few and sell them on line.

Well i tried to look for the cheapest D15 and you are right. I have exaggerated a bit. 83$ for D15 the lowest i could find with the fast search. Still i think it's a decent price :)

if you plan on doing some moderate to heavy overclocking then by all means go for the d15.
if stock/light overclocking then you don't need an $83 cooler. a $30 cooler like the 2 I mentioned are more than sufficient.
all depends on your long term plans.
the reason I call it expensive. is you're in the ballpark of a decent 240mm AIO cooler at that point.

Maybe would it be better for me to get a cheaper cooler like you mentioned and get additional 2 side fans for better air circulation? I'm sure i wont OC to 4.5Ghz or higher.
I got one in the front blowing the air into the case.

without seeing the inside of the case its hard to say if more fans besides the standard back exhaust and 1 bottom front intake will make a difference. all depends on whats in the case and good cable management and whatnot. I've seen plenty of tests where adding more fans doesn't increase cooling much. and I've seen times where it does.

Well I've tried to lower the voltage on my CPU. Now it runs fair on 1.08v instead auto 1.2v and it seem it's stable. I will test it later on playing or stressing for a longer period of time. The temps got down sharply and showing 65 under full stress. Great :) I think i'm good till i decide which CPU cooler to purchase :)

Good choice for the beginning and I would advise to watch some tutorials on how to mount that D15 before you buy it...just to get an idea. I would also consider watching some cooler reviews so you can maybe find something more suitable (price/performance) for your needs.

If you think of water cooling then you can just forget about it. I can buy the HD15 which is around 80-100$ no problem. Just didn't realize that i'm gonna need one. If you got any suggestions for the cooling solution please post your suggestions here. :) Thanks

No you don't need a D15... Noctua has other great coolers that can handle your CPU at stock or mild overclock.

92mm - U9S or D9L
120mm - U12S

If you don't overclock, a 92mm Noctua tower like the two mentioned will do just fine. They perform just as well as any of the generic, cheap 120mm towers.

The D15 is a monster and represents the pinnacle of air coolers. It is not necessary, nor is it a rational buy for these purposes. It is also quite cumbersome and heavy. If you're looking for decent temps, just get a cheap 212 EVO (or whatever Cooler Master has deemed the legendary 212's successor). If you like the dual-tower layout of the D15, the D9L is a smaller but very capable cooler that supports triple 92mm fans in push + push/pull + pull.

Undervolting is a great step towards lowering your temperatures. Just take it one step at a time and find out the limit of your CPU on the low end of voltages, then keep it a safe distance from that limit and enjoy.

that might depend so much about your location sir, prices arent the same arround the globe, and some AIO water coolers are pretty much a great idea for improving cooling
Also delid which is a pretty dangerous processs

i would hope a $55 cooler performed as well as a $30 cooler. however you don't need a $55 cooler for a stock/mild overclock.

im afraid that is the stock cooler ...
Contrary to what many want to believe, OEM coolers work very well - even with mild to moderate overclocking AND a properly cooled case.

i would hope a $55 cooler performed as well as a $30 cooler. however you don't need a $55 cooler for a stock/mild overclock.

Do you see 92mm towers performing as well as 120mm towers every day?

That aside, Noctua Secufirm is known to be functional and easy to install, especially for new builders. CM's 212 mounting system has proven to be the opposite.
