CPU market share,

If anyone can help it would be amazing.

I am looking for some data confirming the most common types of processors used, I'm having a discussion with someone saying the most commonly type of processors still used these days are dual core CPU's but I still believe and some evidence (which I cannot find anymore) still says the single core CPU is most common.

Obviously I am talking world wide figures across all electronic devices.

Anyone can help?

I'm going to say, based on what's been sold for some time now, that overall, including non gaming PCs, dual core is probably still most used. Mainly because you have to factor in all the laptops in use, and not many need a quad core in their LTs.

Before clicking on the thread I assumed you meant Intel vs AMD market share. You may want to reword the title to something like "Which CPU core config is most used?"

Well if you count ALL electronic devices (cellphones, GPS, ATMs and a long etc.) then yes, I do believe that single core processors are the most common.

In therm of PC market share I'd say that dual cores are the norm. Heck, AMD doesn't even make single core CPUs anymore and Intel just has a handful of single core models, mostly Atoms.

It's not that surprising to think so given how many LTs have been sold and how long they've been selling cheap ones with dual core CPUs. Same for desktops really.

Yeah, I guess it's a kind of perspective thing, I mean it has been years and years since I've had a single core/processor PC.

I think my last single core processor was a pentium 4 515 2.93ghz oem machine my mum bought me from currys/pcworld it still overclocked to 3.4ghz on the oem motherboard it was in. My first dual core was an AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+ :rockout:

well here are gaming results:

dual core slightly has the lead, but quads are 5% below them. Single core are a measly 5% or so.
