CPU Upgrade Dilemma

Im about to build a 2nd PC for GF and i wanna use my current q6600 for that build, my delema is what CPU replacement should i get for my current gaming/workstation pc (budget $200)

Q6600 3.6ghz OC'ed with Xigmatek HDT S1284, GA-EP45-UD3P Mobo, 8gb Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066mhz (down clock to 800mhz) (4-4-4-12), ATI 4870 check the rest at system info

The best option would be Q9550, or rather the only option.

Dilemma, is the only thing you misspelled. We are very used to, and welcome, many other languages, even if they slaughter the english language

(UK does enough of that in the first place. Tea and Crumpets anyone?) :laugh:

I would get a pretty little Q8200, save yourself some money while getting a very nice budget system, The Q9550 is way over $200 including taxes and shipping, though if you had the budget for it, it is a very good decision.

Thanks for quick replys, well microcenter got Q9550 for $169 +tax and +$40 more for Q9650. Should i go for Q9650?

I'd go with a dual core for a skt 775 gaming rig. $200 should get you a E8500.

i must disagree. i have an e8500, and i would much rather have a q9650, which he said was in his price range

lol, didnt mean to seem like such an ass in my last post BTW.

Once again, i never said anything about an upgrade. He doesnt absolutely need an upgrade, his Q6600 is still fine, he could grab the Q8200, which is a very nice processor for the price, and set her up with that.

Guess ill have to go with Sir_Real, duals are better for gaming price-wise. My e8500 could whip a q9550 at any game on the market stock, and there is no comparison when it comes to OCing mine to 4.5 GHZ.
Though, if she does any multithreading task on a usual basis, she needs to get a quad. All up to what you do, really.

now this my current option

A) buy e8200 ($99) for my gf comp and keep my q6600 till my next upgrade i7 or i5 (she does twitter/facebook all the online bs

and occasional WOW)

B) buy q9650 but my concern is my next upgrade willl be to buy 5870x2 when its comes out, now do you guys think q9650 will hold back 5870x2, not planning to cf with current set up

the q9650 is much better then your current q6600...it will not bottleneck 1 5870x2, especially if u can oc it.
how long till u can upgrade to i7? depending on how long you are going to wait, it might be a more cost effective option to get the e8200 for your g/f and wait to upgrade

You can get the q9650, but if you know how to oc (even if you don't its very easy) you can buy the q9550 and simply bump the clocks to 3.0 ghz or more. Since the only difference between the 9550 and 9650 is the clocks, that is the most cost efficient thing to do. You save $40 which can go forward to the 5870x2
