So i been staring down craigslist for the past month or so trying to find some hardware for cheap. despite all my high end hardware i've had over the years, im frugal as hell and kind of a cheap ass haha!

anyways, i found a gigabyte h55m-ud2h board for only $30 which i thought was a decent deal.

i picked up a i5 655k this guy who works at a computer recycling center "found in a computer" his work was given. im going back for the rest of the computer tomorrow to see what kinda gems i can get for next to nothing. i only paid $100 for the 655k.. not bad.

someone keeps dumping LCDs and other stuff in my trashcan here at the apartments. last week i found a nearly new samsung 22" LCD. it only had 2 bulged caps in it which i replaced with some from my collection over the years. free LCD

i found a guy on craigslist with an evga 8800gts 512mb card... MINT for only $35 but i ended up trading him the LCD i fixed..... so free video card ha!

a few months ago a good local friend of mine had a machine gave to him that was "no longer working" it had a dead motherboard so i parted out the cpu(q9550), ram(4x1gb ddr2), and video card(4850). got $160 for all that.

so i threw all this stuff i got into the case... which is a gateway f6000 case, meh.. not great but looks pretty decent for a free case... and for gateway.

so after doing the math, i ended up with a half way decent machine... and still have some money left over to get a decent 8gb kit of ram or.. im thinking about picking up this gts250 i just found for $25 on craigslist. i still need a better cooler though.

moral of the story is... craigslist is half way decent, just really dig for those deals and try to negotiate with people. i've never paid full asking price for anything. hope to see you guys have similar luck ;)

i'll grab some pics but heres a quick shot for now....

Hell yea fits! I found a set of 6950 2GB cards for 175$ a piece but they were over 70 miles away and wouldn't benefit from the drive

Good deal :toast:

Maybe you can setup a Craig's List Buildoff Challenge for some fun

Suggestions...

Points awarded for:
- least cost
- originality
- benchmarks

Guidelines
- all items must be bought from local sources (Craig's list, garage sales, flea markets, garage sales, etc...)
- no parts from personal stash
- no trading-off of parts to the internet to go in the build but can be used to finance parts for the build
- set a fixed set of components (Mobo, CPU, ram, HDDs, etc...)
- set a time limit

Award a prize for the winners or do it for pink slips (i.e. winner gets all the machines), or donate/Pay it Forward the builds

There may be some members interested in taking such a challenge...

Just my $0.02... tapped out for ideas past this point

Gee you are also doing a favor to the planet and all living things (soil and ground water contamination and such) by keeping those LCDs out of the landfill. Please find out who that is and punch them in the fucking teeth for me.
