crossfire/cpu upgrade advice/suggestions needed

Hi , i'm trying to figure out which computer parts i should upgrade too get the most performence out of my money, and i figured you guys might be able to help me out?

My current system :
Case : Iw-win MANA white (atx) medium
dvd writer :Asus dvd writer 241FST
Powersupply :Cooler master G650M
Motherboard:Gigabite 9070A-UD3 (rev 1.0)
Ram : Corsair vengance 4Gx2 DDR3 Dual (1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V)
processor : AMD FX 6100.
Graphics card: AMD R9 270X
Hard Drive1 : SSD 120 Gig (sandisk "extreme" baught at a store a almost 2 years ago)
Hard Drive 2 : SSDHD 1 TB.

So i've been slowly building this computer over a year now, and right now its good for 1080P at medium/high settings for games.

So my current toughts is too Get a annother R9 270x and crossfire, but my current motherboard doesen't support it , so i was thinking of getting a new motherboard with the right tools, And with that a new CPU . eighter amd or intel. maybe upgrading the RAM aswell. so thats my plan.
Anyways.. what do you guys think would be the best to upgrade at this point? (at an reasonable price)
(using this computer for gaming only)

Hello,

Can I ask what type of games you are playing, and whether you plan to up the resolution? Not all games support Crossfire, and of those that do, CF works better in some but not so well in others. Personally, if the only usage of this computer is for gaming, any CPU you "upgrade" to is really more of a sidegrade.

Actually your board does indeed support CrossFire. I would suggest another 270X and 8320 no motherboard upgrade

Depends on what your wanting to accomplish and your budget. If this machine is strictly gaming then you might want to think about a few points.

1: While the FX 6100 is not the best CPU on the market, its decent so upgrading to something newer even an Intel i5 will not be night and day. You will see performance gains just not like skyrocketing performance

2: A second GPU is always nice, but the game your playing Has to support CFX/SLI or else its just a waste. Its sometimes just easier to get a more powerful single GPU.

3: Replacing the motherboard and cpu is going to be costly especially getting one that supports 2 GPU's at higher bandwidth speeds. Your current motherboard will support a second AMD GPU because they will run at 4x speed, but its not normally recommended.

Your current rig is not bad, its actually pretty decent, if your willing to try and overclock you might want to just invest in an aftermarket cooler and overclock your CPU (Something like an Hyper212). If your more of the just want it to be good as it comes and your not satisfied with your current performance, you can do the following:

i5 4690
Asus Z97-A

That upgrade will allow for a better dual GPU setup and is for if you do not intend to overclock. It should be more than enough for your needs for a few years and you can reuse everything else.

Now if you want to just get a new motherboard with support and keep your CPU, try something like this:

Asrock 970 Extreme 4
Cooler Master Hyper212
Another R9 270X

I personally think that you do not need a CPU upgrade though in the end because you will not see that much of a difference at 1080p, Grabbing another R9 270X will be enough to boost your gaming experience for now.

No not really, i would need to buy a new monitor that supports that, i might work my way upward in the future like 1440P then go from there. I mainply play world of warcraft,Battlefield 4,call of duty etc etc

Thanks for the great feedback , i do really like the new cpu and motherboard option and with that i could fetch annother r9 270 X later down the road. As of right now i feel as the graphics are good enough for me, but in CPU performence games as world of warcraft and Counter strike Go, which both uses an old engine i feel i a CPU upgrade would be the best (first), and i do have an after market cooler btw (artic freezer A11) works great. However the Asus Z97 A seems abit expensive, are there cheaper motherboards out there that would do the job?

In gaming, you won't notice a massive difference if you were to upgrade to the FX 8320, perhaps a few FPS at best. Those games you said are fairly intensive (okay, well BF4 then), and maybe could get a little better performance if you were to upgrade to an i5, but IMO I wouldn't think it was exactly worth it. Video editing on the other hand would be a different story. If you were going to upgrade to a 1440p monitor, I think better performance would be had by selling your current 270x and getting an R9 280x or GTX 770 may overall be better, as not all games support CF, however I don't actually have any stats, so I may be wrong. My advice is save up, and perhaps wait until future games get more resource intensive, or if you decide to go to 1440p, before upgrading. Any suggestions we make are unlikely to have a worthwhile benefit in 1080p gaming IMO.

x16 and x4 would be fine as I myself have run it before and performance difference isn't much

If this is what you want to do, try this instead to see if the price goes down a bit:

Asrock Z97 Extreme3

Hard to go much lower than that and get a real nice board.

I have the predecessor to the R9 270 (7850) and going from a Phenom II to a i5 made an enormous difference, I suggest that the 6100 is what is leaving you wanting more.

i also saw a huge increase from oc'd q6600 "3.7ghz" to an i5-2500k..
an 8120 at stock was no improvement at all.. I also have an 8750 overclocked.
If i could do it over i would probably go for a i5-3xxxk just for the pci-e 3.0 support but cant realy say i have needed it..

Make sure the board has dual pci-e 16 lanes that can run at least at 8x on both at the same time. The rest of the features is up to you and is all bling!

That is LGA 1155 not LGA 1150 so it is not compatible with the Haswell series of chips. That is an Ivy-Bridge board chip for chips like the i7 3770k, i5 3570k, etc.

You need either a Z87 board or Z97 if you want to go Haswell, it would be better to stick with the Z97 to get out of the box support for the new generation of chips.
