Your 7850 only has 1 GB of VRAM? That right there tells me you should sell it and buy a 7950 as others are stating.

EDIT: What resolution is your monitor? Do you play games and if so what ones?

Open up your case and read the label. We need to know what power supply you have to be sure what it can handle.

this is from the web ; RECOM PE-600 Plus, Silent FAN 120mm, 20+4 pins, 4+4 Pins ATX, 2 x Pci-E 6+2 Pins, 5 x 4-pin Molex, 1x Floppy, 6 x SATA, active PFC .... here is a pic- http://www.itsvet.com/popup.php?pg=si&img=/img/obj/articles/000/000/004/497/12.jpg

the link isn't working (but for everyone else: http://www.recom.nl/psu.html)

ive never heard of that psu brand, although it had the same amps as my old budget psu?! see what others think, but may need changing before new card, or very shortly after.

I had a 450 watt PSU powering a 4850/4870 combo and while it lasted for a good while, it eventually weakened the PSU to the point where it had to be replaced. It looks like yours will provide 432w on the 12v rail which isn't enough on paper and wouldn't be recommended, but may work for crossfire anyways. Two 7870s have a combined max TDP of 350 watts where as the 7950 has a 200 watt max TDP.

I'd recommend going for the 7950 just so you don't have to worry about crossfire issues or power requirements.

I made this mistake a while back, being a noob to components. I thought I could get away with a budget psu and spend more on other parts, but turns out not to be the best idea.

so I went overkill and bought a well rated psu for my 7950, I noticed better temps, haven't had a crash or glitch since. and everything just feels better as well as peace of mind.

also if your psu is budget and I haven't found a review or rating for it, chances are itll die with a 7950/xfire or overclocking, I learnt and listened...

well it should fire up the rig, may not be oc friendly
save some bucks and buy a greater psu,to be future proof.

My vote would be single, CF or SLI is just another point where something could go wrong and does.

Like others mentioned if the PSU is good rated one it will power up your rig with the new 7950. Peak watts the card will consume under normal gaming standards is around 150w. Rough estimate of your CPU at full blast will consume 280w. But I have never seen a game that stresses both CPU and GPU to max 100%. So you should be good.

Google PSU wattage calculator and get a rough estimate on what your rig might consume @90% load. Or better get Kill-A-Watt device to get better understanding on how much your rig consumes while gaming.

Always watch out for instability.

Have fun with your new card.
