Hi all.
Firstly this is an issue that has plagued me for quite some time.

Currently I am having to use crimson version 16.11.5-nov25 to get successful crossfire with my 295x2 and R9 290.

Any driver version after that with wattman etc including the newest adrenalin drivers disable crossfire for gaming. Crossfire, however, is enabled but only a single GPU from my 295x2 is functional. The other including the 290 graphics cards GPU is non functional. This has been the case with every driver revision since the introduction of wattman.

I have tried pretty much everything i can think of and the only way to enable all three GPU's in-game is to revert back to an older driver. Obviously this is not ideal at all as I lose all never profiles and tweaks for more recent games.

Surely I cannot be the only person to have this problem? There has to be a work around but I cannot for the life of me find the answer. Sticking with the older drivers is denying me game optomisations and enhanced driver functionality.

Also, just incase someone chimes in with the comment about crossfire being phased out etc, every game I have tested works with crossfire either by AFR or another method or by native profile support. This is purely a driver issue I am having.

Thanks in advance!

I have the exact same problem, R9 290 (2x) will not be enabled for any driver after 17.4.3-apr17. I am aware that AMD has phased out Crossfire in favor of multi-GPU support for DirectX 12 games.
So could it be that even though both cards are not enabled in the Device Manager, a DirectX 12 game would automatically detect both cards and run in mGPU mode?
I look forward to feedback from the team.

For the time being use the older driver and do a bug report, the more this is reported, even on AMD reddit, the more focus they will have
