You don't get the dongle with them anymore, if you ever did. My HIS 1600XT Turbo didn't come with one, nor my friends Sapphire same model.

OK, check page 3-17 in mobo manuel for proper PCI-E Bios setup options.

No, but you quoted me, which made who you intended it for, a bit confusing heh

Uninstall everything ATi, then reinstall the Cat 7.3 and JUST ATi Tray Tools 1.3.6.1015. I can send you it if you need.

Go into the Hardware>Crossfire setting and enable it.

My friend with two x1600XTs was having crossfire problems with CCC and using ATT fixed it. He was a very happy camper.

Ok I'll try this. I have come to accept that it may in fact be the TV that I'm using as a monitor, even though ATI didn't mention that any certain displays are required for Crossfire. I'll try this, but tomorrow I'm going to check out some 27" LCD TVs with DVI, HDMI, and VGA inputs. $$$$$$$$money$$$$$$$$$$ ouch

Ok so your friend that had problems:
how similar were his problems? Using the component output (S-Video?)

Have you tried both DVI out with the interconnect bridges?
Have you tried without the interconnect bridges and use the "dongle" instead.
No and no. My CRT TV only has support for S-video, so that's what I'm using. Also, the X1950 Pro has native Crossfire, so the dongle cable isn't necessary, supplied, and I believe won't work anyway.

Also, does anyone know how to use Softfire? Does it even exist yet? Is there any way to force Crossfire other than ATI Tray Tools?

Thanks so much for the help :) If I go with the LCD HD TV, then that will bring my video setup for my PC to ~$1K :p

Yea, make sure the BIOS is set, if you haven't.

As far as Crossfire goes, I'd be surprised if it supported S-Video. ATi didn't list it because they, like me, probably figured no one would try running it through S-Video.

Also, don't look for a TV as your monitor. You CAN yes, and people I know do it, but I just personally wouldn't. Not unless you plan to spend $1200+ for something with a low refresh (8ms or less) and nice contrast ratio (800:1+). Unless you plan on going CRT with DVI and HDMI heh, then never mind :) Knock yourself out!

How similar was my friends case? lol He had the same CPU as you ;) He has the Xpress 1600 chipset, and dual 1600XTs. But he also was piping the video out to a LCD monitor, not a TV. He could get Crossfire working but 1/2 ass. It would let him do 14xAA, but he wouldn't lose any performance, but the catch is, with it off, he wouldn't GAIN any either. After he whipped everything, I said for him to try this latest, and he did. After that I got a message from him jumping and hollering (as much as MSN can convey jumping and hollering lol) about how it works great now. He can run games higher res, and everything is awesome!.

So, when I saw this, I figured I'd pass along what I found, in hopes it solves your issue too :)

I see what you're saying, but they still didn't say "an RGB space supported monitor" in the system requirements. That's exactly what it is, a system requirement.
Also, I'm not cheaping out on the monitor. I'll probably end up getting a $1K monitor, 1080P with an 8ms refresh. :D Whole lotta money.....but it's well spent on an LCD TV!
I'm still upset that ATI doesn't mention that you need a DVI or VGA input to run crossfire.
They haven't even responded to the support ticket that I sent on Wednesday night. They sent an auto response telling me that if I have CLI.exe errors, that I should installed .NET 2.0. Right.......if my company treated our clients like that, we would be out of business (tech support here as well)
We have an operator take the calls, log their a brief description of their issue (or transfer if we have enough free techs), then set a priority.
We have dedicated software that reports:
the time elapsed since the call was first taken
the priority of the issue
the name(s) of the involved tech(s)
a log file of the procedures that have been used to solve the issue.

This is unacceptable for a company such as ATI/AMD. I spent ~$450 on these cards, not to mention that most of my system is from them ($ wise)
Unacceptable.

Oh yea my BIOS manual 3-17 is the memory options......let me check the PDF. Probably has different page breaks.

Ok the only setting is for the PCI-E reset delay....don't really know what that does but I guess I can give it a shot.

You didn't see the review about cables of that nature then. They're all the exact same quality. You're paying for a name and thats it.

They don't perform any better, but some of the higher quality ones take abuse better. It only makes a difference if you tend to move your stuff around a lot tho.

True. The steel braided ones will hold up better. Which reminds me, I have that for my PS2, and my PS2 has Gran Tourismo 1 idling for me to continue playing... I think I will :D

Well I got it working, it was the monitor. Anyone running the X1950 Pros in Crossfire? My 3dmark06 score at default everything was 8156.

K, thats it heh.

As far as the score, that sounds about right. Submit it to AlCapone's 3Dmark thread. I think it's in the Overclocking section (Not sure why THAT section, anyways...)
