Hi All,

Moving to Sandy Bridge (the mrs wants a pc, so I'll get the SB and pass her my..junk:rockout:). Getting an i5-2500k with this and G.Skill RipJawsX 4gb(Dual) ddr3-1333 (F3-10666CL8D-4GBXM) if it matters

I've narrowed my choice down to 2 boards

ASUS P8P67 LE
+ I like the Full Atx form factor
- 16x/4x xfire

vs

Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3
++ 8x/8x xfire/sli
- mATX

So yeah, the main difference for me is just the form-factor. I wanted to know what you guys think I should go for.

This is going to mostly be for gaming and I wanted it to be 'decent' for as long as possible.

Another option am looking at is a 955 + Asrock 890gx Pro3 (looks to have an am3b socket) and save myself some money, but am concerned that I might be throwing a wrench at a future xfire setup (most likely 6850s).

So, whacha sez?

I hereby banish the LE from ever being purchased or existing beyond this point and time. It's an abomination. You have to overclock from software to get even some of the features of the next step up. In that price range I'd get the Biostar TP67XE if it's available where you are. None of that artificial model differentiation via gimped bios settings.

Thanks for the quick reply. Seems that board is available and cheaper to boot. 2 questions though:
1.) Specs list "Support Dual Channel DDR3 1333/1066 MHz", does it mean it can't do ddr3-1600 (or oc somewhere in between... sorry for being ignorant)
2.) 2 x PCI-E x16 2.0 Slot (x16 + x1) = does this mean its 16x/1x crossfire? how big of a performance hit will it take if so?

I don't know about the crossfire bit, but the memory ratings don't mean much. Intel spec is 1333 max, asus is just saying they guarantee 1600 will work without considering it an overclock though according to intel it is regardless of what asus labels it as. All P67 boards except the boards made by intel will do 1600 mhz just fine.

16x/4x is slower then 8x/8x so with the eye on dual gpu`s i`d go for the gigabyte, but if you are not planning to go dual gpu i`d go for the asus, because it is a full atx and imo a better brand.

This. The TP67XE is the best budget board for Sandy Bridge as far as I'm concerned. Very capable board for the price, and in some circles it's an enthusiast favorite. I had a B2 version, and it was a very solid board with an excellent bios layout.

Been using AMD all my life, and intel's board segmentation is just f*kd up. H61 vs H67 vs P67. Man.. their marketing team is a BEAST.. in both positive and negative respects of the word.

Looks like ill have to save up a just bit, miscalculated about the IGP (P67 has none :(). I hope I don't actually end up going with option 4 lol

I say go for the Hookers homeboy:laugh:

Kidding aside, I have 2 2600K setups P8P67 EVO and P67A-UD4 (both B3's). I like Asus' BIOS layout and functionality, the LE version might be cheap but I don't think it's on par with the other cheaper ones like Biostar or Asrock. My $.02;)

The P8P67 regular is the minimum Asus you should consider.
The LE is crap.

As others have said Biostar TP67XE is pretty awesome. It's a great board for the price, however the layout isn't as good as some other boards, and it only has 5 SATA ports. For a slight increase in price, you can consider the AsRock P67 Extreme4. It's a pretty nice board with a slightly better expansion slot layout and more SATA ports. The days of AsRock sucking are over. But if you're only using 5 or less SATA and the layout works for you, Biostar all the way!

The Asrock is a decent option too. However, the Biostar has a better bios layout and the Asrock has been reported to have significant vdroop and it needs more voltage than most boards for the same clocks, though I haven't tested the board to verify this. But if number of SATA connectors is a concern, then you should consider it. Both Biostar and Asrock have really stepped up the last couple generations.

Halo, rather see if you can get a ASUS P67 Pro B3
It has SLI/CrossFire at [ 8x/8x ]
and is an excellent value for money Motherboard.
Just look around and see how many people have this MB then ask yourself "Why?....."

:) Just my 2 cents.

F(orget) waiting for BD if you are ready to order now. Nobody knows what this will bring or when it will even get here.

2500k and Z68 is what I voted for.
